I keep seeing people mentioning losing things on their PC and it kinda puzzles me since I don't have the problem. Perhaps if I shared some of my methods, it might help someone so here goes.
First, ALL downloads go into a My Downloads file on my desktop that I created. From there they get virus checked and then moved as appropriate.
In My Documents I have a folder called zips opened and all zipped files, after being processed, go into here and later onto an external drive.
Periodically I back up My Docs to CD.
I use Super Cat from http://no-nonsense-software.com to make a searchable listing of all content on CDs ect. Thus, anything I have CAN be found without much trouble at all.
If you go to no-nonsense-software.com, be sure to check out their other offerings...some very useful things, some free, some low cost.
