You want to have software to run your recordings through...this is the best way to do it...NONE of the portable voice recorders have the features of a studio...which is what most programs are.

I have Sonic and Audacity...and between them they can get any job done.

Most of the small recorders don't have enough bottom to them...you can add base, take out noise, eliminate spaces, gaps, coughs and guffaws with the software.

Go that route and try the Olympus brand, but, the RCA I wrote about recently does a good job of getting the voice to the sofware.

The RCA RP5030 works fine. BUT, the Olympus DS-4000 is a good mid priced alternative.
