The other day while waiting to check out at the grocery store, I noticed a rack of books beside the impulse items.
"The Diary of a Wimpy Kid"
It turns out that this is a series of books with the same title, plus a different title for each in the series. Just like the Chicken Soup series.
So I checked out best sellers online (http://books.usatoday.com/list/index?date=2011-12-04), and found that six out of ten best sellers are either kid books, or aimed at the youth market.
Thinking it was just because of the Christmas season, I found a calendar on that page that lets you check for past week's best sellers list. In June 2011, the same was true. Six out of ten best sellers were for kids or youth.
This could be handy information for aspiring authors.
