Found an old Joe Cossman folio, and remembered writing a report once. Here is the gist of his sales pitch...

Become an owner and not an operator of a business. Now this parallels Harvey Brody's Toll Position, probably because Harvey did Per Diem work for Cossman back in the day. So we see many crossover ideas. AND, much of this is echoed in other people's work too, those who worked with Harvey or Joe.

Patents, copyrights, trademarks, tooling and dies, marketing agreements seem to be similar concepts in several of these programs. Toll positions all.

OWNERSHIP is the thrust of the folio, and how many "things" of value could be owned by a simple signature document.

Here are some of the other BRIEFCASE BUSINESSES which for the most part go unmentioned online.

Well, til now...so

The foundation of a briefcase business, which refers to the DOCUMENTS inside the briefcase, is built on PROPRIETARY OWNERSHIP.

These instruments of ownership include licensing, marketing, manufacturing and distribution AGREEMENTS.

They are RIGHTS. You know what a copyright is, a way to protect proprietary Intellectual Property (one way), and

RIGHTS can be sold, transferred and exchanged...

they become in effect, a form of currency. A very valuable currency.

A simple example is a transfer of publishing rights. Maybe you wrote a book, and you want to sell the rights to it, and some of these could be cash cow situations, a simple legal document agreed and witnessed is all it takes.

One of the fastest ways to profit from these brief case businesses is to become a middleman...and this explains why so many lawyers who specialize in IP and "rights transfers" are often at the top of the attorney pay scale. Take a music catalog, like The Beatles, worth millions a year, it has changed ownership a couple of times over the years.

This is the gist of the folio, I know some of you have the actual briefcase Cossman used to send out, great packaging of his material by the way.

For some reason, it seems to be more or less an unknown way, maybe because they don't know how, but not much in the IM community regarding these brief case opportunities.

In many instances, OWNERSHIP can change hands overnight, and often without any out of pocket money or expenses.

Wou8ld you like to know more about these OWNERSHIP opportuniites?

Gordon

PS. Finding and advertising some rights could lead to FINDERS FEEs too.
