Friend of the forum, Steve DiMarco, does the introduction to his father's WWII true story.
It is compelling reading.
It should be a movie. Remember THE GREAT ESCAPE, with Steve McQueen? And DARBY'S RANGERS with James Garner (Maverick) who was also in the Great Escape.
And ANZIO with Robert Mitchum and Peter Falk?
Well, when the Rangers were captured at Cisterna, they were put on a train and sent to work camps. Four men escaped from the train, one died during the escape and three survived and lived behind enemy lines for months.
Steve's father, Angelo DiMarco was one of those men.
This is a story of survival, will power and determination. It is a true story.
It would make a great movie, so if you want a good read and are any sort of history buff, get a copy of MORE THAN A SOLDIER.
