Those animated manniquins are amazing and I think
would sell easily to store owners, but aren't they banned
in most areas? Most municipal areas seem to prohibit moving
signs. Anyone know where they are allowed?

In the comments below the piece, he states (from Nov. 3), that the store received a 50 percent increase in walk-ins, which means they went from 8 to 12 per day.

As far as the design and the photos on the sign, I think the point is they are trying to capture the foot traffic (is 800 people per day a high-foot traffic location?), and not the passing cars.

I'm thinking I'd like to see them try one of those animated mannequins holding a sign ... or better yet ... a pair of shoes.

I caution myself about using

"most", unless I know it to be true. Moving signs are everywhere, and it depends, of course, on the city you are in, doesn't cost anything to find for certain what the city says about them.

Since there is such a wide variance on them, do check, but one of the most successful Grand Openings I did was when I donned a giant 6 foot costume of a magician, inside a hat held by a rabbit. Even made the paper.

A walking talking animated promotion worked like gang busters.

In our town there seems to be a guy most people consider otherwise homeless who is sort of a celebrity we call "Air Guitar".

He is paid to stand outside various businesses and promote them by playing his "Air Guitar" with a cardboard "guitar" with the business name and message.

He's a minor celebrity here...
