Well, I'm doing it...Pray, cross your fingers, wish me luck!

Thanks to some of the great advice I've gotten on this forum and a few others, I am ready to branch out with my Whistler Touism website and see if it can make me some money.

As someone suggested here, I am offering a "Sea To Sky Country Club" package, which my subscribers can receive for a monthly or yearly fee. In the package will be real-estate magazines, news & entertainment magazines, brochures, coupons, and anything else I can pick up for free! My by-line is "Just perfect for planning your next dream vacation or move to the Sea To Sky Corridor." I just added this option yesterday, so no takers yet. The first 5 subscribers will also receive a gorgeous, hard-cover coffee-table book about the Whistler area, which, get this, I picked up BRAND NEW for $1 each at the local Second Hand store!! If you have a mind to, you can go to my website and see how I've described the offer....maybe I could word it better?

The other thing I'm doing this weekend is calling personally on businesses in the Corridor (Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton)with a sales letter offering them a FREE coupon ad on my site until Dec. 31st. After that, they pay $20 per month to keep it running. Included with this offer will be a free ad, plus hyperlink to their coupon (on my site) in my newsletter going out on Dec. 20th. (a $50 value). So all together it's a $70 value for free.

Hopefully this will drum up some paid business for me in the New Year.

Thanks to all who gave me such great ideas and advice!

Plus I found an interesting way to get more subscribers...

Someone from one of the forums I frequent, heard me lamenting that I only had 15 people signed up for my free newsletter in the past 6 months. He sent me an URL to check out. It's a site that works like an affiliate program, and it's free. You put a line of code in your website, which generates a pop-up everytime someone leaves your site. This pop-up is a sign-up for free newsletters, and the list refreshes to new offers each time. Every time your site displayes the pop-up, your newsletter offer receives 4 displays on other websites doing the same thing.

It did sound too good to be true, but since it was free, I signed up yesterday. Surprise, surprise, today I had two people sign up for my newsletter! Please don't misconstrue this as an ad, I'm genuinely pleased with this service. I'll include the link below, but if the moderator feels it's too much like advertising, I'll understand completely if he removes it.

Hey Anya!

I just signed up with Subscriber drive as well. I am looking forward to seeing how it works.

I have quite a few more than 15 subscribers, although I DO remember what that was like!

Quick question. Have you signed up with the announcement services? Most of them are free. That's how I got started when I was running my e-zine. When I started my e-zine, I got about 200 subscribers in just a few days. Here's the one I used.

Here's another idea for you. Send an e-mail to Paul Myers. You can get him at [email protected]. Tell Paul Rick sent you. Tell him you want the same e-zine package Rick got from him. I don't know what he charges for it. It's not much. It's around $30.00. It'll be the *best* $30.00 you've spent on e-zine building. Period. Paul will give you some ideas you've never thought of heard of. He did for me. And I've been at this awhile.

Thanks for this info Rick - but I need help with this URL. The site isn't very self-explanatory for how to list my newsletter. Can you please tell me where to go from their home page? What link do I look for?

Thanks very much,
Anya.

ps I haven't got $30 at the moment, with Christmas coming and all, and the exchange rate from US to Canadian dollars will make the final price a doozey, but I will look into your other suggestion when I can. Thanks again!

Well, it appears their links don't work. I should have checked this a bit further. Lemme suggest an alternate method. Get on Google. Search for "announcement lists." You'll get a bunch of stuff listed. Here's a time saver. Just try this URL.

Understood.

Anya --

The best source of subscribers for us has been joining together with other complimentary newsletters. You can subscribe to my letter to see what I'm talking about. You can always unsub after you check it out. All of us use the same system and it drives the majority of the subscribers we receive - and that' a bunch o' subs. And the best part is it doesn't cost you anything and keeps working for you month after month. You can see one of our signup forms here:

Best of wishes.
