I think I should charge advertising space for people promoting

business opportunities...

A strange phenomenon has been happening. I was in the bookstore yesterday, and I was approached by 4 separate individuals. They were all PROMOTING the same Multilevel opportunity! (Quixtar)

It was very amusing, considering the last 3 times I was in the bookstore, I was approached by 3 different individuals as well.

I really liked some of the openers:

"Hey haven't we met before?" (NO!)
"Hey what type of business are you in?"
"Are you open for an opportunity?"

I figure I could probably CHARGE advertising space on my Jacket, front and back. Heck I can even where a baseball cap and charge for space on it!

Any takers?? :->

Duane

P.S
Has anybody else been approached, or this something that is just happening here in Toronto?

Dien Rice April 11, 2001 08:20 AM

New places to advertise.... :)

Hi Duane!

I think you're not the only one! Here's a news story I just came across.... :)

Lincoln, Nebraska-AP -- Call it ab-vertising.

A Nebraska graphic arts firm is unveiling its latest advertising concept today -- selling advertising space on cheerleaders' bare midriffs.

The demonstration will take place at an arena football game between the Lincoln Lightning and the Iowa Barnstormers.

The Lightning High Voltage dancers will be sporting temporary tattoos on a two-by-three-inch area between the navel and hip. Each tattoo has the team logo and room for a sponsor.

Marty Hager of Graphics Plus says he came up with the idea for Belly Billboards at a game last year, when he noticed the cheerleaders' uniforms. He figured people were already looking at that space, so why not put some advertising on it.

Source of the news story....

LOL this is a NEW one, Dien!

Hey Dien!

Wow, this one gave ME a good Belly Laugh!

All I could think of is in my current condition there would be a LOT more space for getting the word out! :-)

THANK YOU!

JULIE

Wow. Never had THAT happen before!

****I have seen business cards tucked into books I have purchased, but I have never been approached like that!

How did you respond?

I wonder what kind of success they are achieving?

Velly, velly interesting!

Dien mentioned previously my appreciation for the book, "The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell. Sounds like these networkers were on the hunt for a Maven or two or twelve....very interconnected people who enjoy sharing an excellent find.

I am going to be more alert on my next trip to the bookstore.........

Oh geez! Sounds like the old "three foot rule" is still in effect. *g*

They don't sound particularly original, do they?

Well, you'll fit right in with the advertisements on the pavement at the gas stations. *g*

I didn't realize you were in Toronto. Gordon and I are in the Cleveland area. If you ever get down this way, give us a holler. We'll get something together.

Re: about those business cards in books...

Julie --

I wanted to say that the business card in the book can be very effective depending on what kind of business you are in. I used to do that at the libraries bookstores.

Very worthwhile depending on your business.

Thanks Julie and Dan for pointing this out.... I haven't seen this here in Australia yet, but I can see how it could be effective! It would be a very inexpensive way to target people with a specific interest.... Thanks for sharing the idea! :)

Re: New places to advertise.... :)

Hi Dien,

I like the idea of the TEMPORARY TATOO as an innovative way to promote almost anything.

Here's an idea:

Tiger woods is basically "plastered" with the Nike Logo. I was watching a program, which said that when tiger plays, the ratings Go WAY UP.

Now imagine this. There are a thousands of MUSIC VIDEO's with Half CLAD women models. Imagine how much you could charge for a temporary tatoos on them! Ha! Ha! just kiddin! :->

Now there is a UNIQUE idea. I know that if I saw a website on that card. I would check it out!

> How did you respond?

Ohh boy did I have some fun with them...at first. I played like "Columbo" (the detective) and acted as if I had never heard of their opportunity. It was interesting to see the various sales techniques. I also learned a lot about each of them! (I got THEIR business cards)

> I wonder what kind of success they are

I think the are growing over here because almost everyone I know is starting to approach me! (SPOOKY..almost CULT LIKE)

Velly!!

I too read this book...and you are CORRECT! It was like a Maven hunt!

I can always appreciate someone trying to make it. It just got a little frustrating when I was trying to leave the bookstore and kept being approached...The last person "caught" me while I was leaving the bookstore!

Thanks Julie!

It's funny, because I can almost predict when they are going to approach me when the're quite a distance away!

If I didn't know about the opportunity,I would be a little nervous because their lines sound like overused "pick up" lines for the opposite sex.*g*

Ha! Ha! I wonder how those spaces go for!

If I am ever in Clevland area, I will let you know! However, when I say Toronto, I mean Toronto CANADA!

Here's an article about using business cards...

Here's an article I wrote about using your business card to generate sales... follow the link.

How To Use Your Business Card To Generate Bucket Loads of Customers

Hi Michael!

Great article.... Your web site has some real gems. It's well worth looking through it all! :)

Thanks!

Hmm... "Miros Design Services".... MIchael ROSs.... I only just realized. (Yeah, I know, sometimes I'm slow... :))

You know what this reminds me of? Kirk Kerkorian (an American multibillionaire) calls his own company Tracinda, and has a big charity fund called Lincy.... Both named after his daughters, Tracy and Linda.... :)

Just think of the possibilities at...

a Nudist Camp... (Naturalist Park)

And think of the various prices that could be charged for different part of the anatomy...

Yeah. I know. But look at your map. You're only a couple of hours or less away as the crow flies. Straight across Lake Erie more or less. Now I know you can't get across Erie unless you travel like a crow or fish. *g* However, I think it's about 4 - 5 hours by car. So you're not that far away. Linda Caroll is in Toronto. Rick Beneteau is up there near you as well.

Hi Michael,

I have spent a couple of hours reading your pages.
Full of creativity indeed!
A beginner I may be, I find them denying any mediocricy in marketing.
Thanks for your great ideas and tips.

Please let me know when and where. I would enjoy meeting you! Hey I didn't realize that there were others from Canada here!

Thanks for the invite.

Thanks, for the interesting article Michael. I was wondering if you had any stats on somebody using this technique?
