Hey! I'm excited!
It's now 4:30 in the afternoon. I just got back from a SIX Sale day....like "picking up dollar bills off the street"! I went out and made some sales calls at 10:30am...took off for lunch at 11:30...went back out at 2pm and headed home at 4pm. So...for a total of 3 hours "work"...I collected $3,040 from 6 local businesses! With my "Tv Channel Listings" guides which are placed in Hotel Rooms. Yesterday afternoon (Weds) I decided to put together my "Sales Pitch" for the 3 Hotels (total of $245 rooms) that have agreed to have little ol' ME provide them with my FREE "TV Channel Listings guides...which are nothing more than sheets of LAMINATED Card Stock....with the Hotel's Logo at top... the TV Listings in the middle and an ad for a Pizza Delivery biz at the bottom... on side 1....and 5 ads on side 2. (2 fast food places, 2 sit down restaurants and 1 realtor) This was all done with about $2 worth of paper and ink (on my inkjet) and $5 to have my local copy shop laminate some Sample Sheets...a $3, 3-ring binder and 4 Top Loader Sheet Protectors (about another $1) Just goes to show...it does NOT take "money to make money". It's ALL in... "WHAT'S ON THE PAPER!" Allright....I will tell you 'WHY" people are paid ME $3,040 to be on MY "Sheets of Paper"; 1) The 2nd most frequent call the front desk of any Hotel/Motel gets is ... "WHERE'S THE TV CHANNEL LISTINGS?" (The MOST calls come from guests asking "Where Do We Eat?") The hotels/motels TRY to keep their "Sheets of Tv Listings" on the desks of their rooms BUT....these are usually typed on 20lb bond and most wind up getting mixed in with newspapers and other "garbage" in the room... HOWEVER, the maids in these places do not promptly replace all these "Tv Listing Sheets". (Sometimes these are laminated but, makes no difference) Therefore...when "I" "ride up on my white horse" and show them a way to "STOP" these phone calls AND...provide MORE SERVICE to their guests....they let ME "do MY thing"!...and provide them with MY program. 2) Local eating places or businesses (like realtors and Gift Shops) can see INSTANTLY...the benefit to their businesses...of having an ad for their biz IN EVERY ROOM....THAT WILL BE REFERRED TO AND SEEN 5 to 10 Times an evening by the occupants of the rooms. This is called "Captive Audience" advertising! AND...couple the above with the fact their are LIMITED SPACES on my Guides...where they realize, upon seeing my samples, they had better join me NOW...because the spaces are going fast and there's not many of them! This is one of those..."Wham-Bam-Thank-Ya-Mam!' type of deals where they know they'd better "pee or get off the pot!"....no dilly-dallying here. So...I am able to walk into a business...find the owner...show him my samples...tell him where they are going and for how long...and how much a space will cost him (I also build in some Incentives for making an "instant" decision) and it's either Yay or Nay. I either get the OK and a check or I go to the next business. $3,000 in a day...from a simple idea! Granted...I don't do this every day. I don't have the energy anymore. But hey...if I do this once a week....or once a month....how bad ya doin'?...on an investment of $10? Thanks for reading, Don Alm P.S. I understand that most of the viewers here would rather disect dead bodies in a CSI Lab....than make a "Sales Call" on a business....HOWEVER, when you get tired of trying to make some extra money from the internet...and "reality" sets in....you MIGHT want to consider 'selling something" to local business people...something they are willing and able to pay for...because it will benefit them. When I use the term, "It does not take MONEY to make MONEY!"....I am using the word "Money" in a "comparative" form.
Starting a business project with $20, to me, is "NO Money"!... .... COMPARATIVELY! Even though 20 bux is...."money"....it is LOW money compared to BIG Money of a few thousand to start a business program. So....if I had said, "It does not take "BIG" money to make "Big" money!" you would probably not have "parsed" my comments. Or...if I had said..."It takes LITTLE Money to make GOOD money!"...these phrases possibly wouldn't have clicked into your "radar" to cause you to respond on this point. Don Alm.... |

Thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your POV, I would have Still jumped in if you had said Big money or Little money because they are Blanket Statements which are factually Incorrect. If you want to make Big money you need someone with Big money to spend it with you - or several smaller monied people, or Many little money people. Notice how, in each case, the money is still other people's. But more important than that is... Their Desire To Spend it. In this regard I am Also against Dan Kennedy saying, "if you can't make money without money, you can't make money with money" because it is also Factually Incorrect. For example: Imagine a place. A Kingdom. The King has ALL the money. The peasants have None. NOw here's the rub... The single thing that the peasants have to offer, in exchange for some of the King's money, is their Labor. But, if they do not want the King's money, then it doesn't matter how much money the King has, because he cannot get anything done with it. So for a Transaction to take place, the King must desire something to be done and to pay for it with his money - and - the peasants must desire to have some of that money. A peasant with a desire for money but a King with no desire for building or buying, ends in nothing. Just like a King with a Desire for building but peasants with No desire for his money. Factually, it DOES take money to make money. It also takes a desire for someone to Spend that money and for someone else to want the money they want to spend. Kennedy would be more accurate if he said, "If you cannot make money without your own money, you will not be able to make money With your own money." Because the simplest money I can make, even if I have no money, is to sell my labor. It would be more accurate to say, "It doesn't take your Own money to make money" and a slight twist, "It doesn't need to take a Lot of your own money to make money." The other versions - Keenedy's and what you posted - are just plain wrong. A result of Laziness to express the Correct meaning. No different than saying the Sun "Rises" or "Sets" or goes "Behind a Cloud". And similar to when people say, "Oh, I forgot..." - they did Not forget did they, as they are saying it right now (they actually remembered, just not When they wanted to). Who says thats true? How do you know? Why is 2 + 2 not 5 or 6 or 7? We come upon the symbolic meaning behind words and alphabets. 2 + 2 = 4 because everyone says so. Everyone agrees to it. Its the same with gold or paper money. Gold has value because everyone agrees that it has value. (Most people have become insanely rich not by trading their labour - but because they took advantage of the difference between value different people assign to the same thing - arbitrage / trade / chattling. But thats another discussion.) Anyways, my point is: "if you can't make money without money, you can't make money with money" maybe factually incorrect. But its symbolically correct. Everyone who reads that knows that Dan Kennedy is talking about the person's own money. Not the community money. "If you can't make money without community money, you can't make money with community money" - doesn't make much sense. So people don't take it into account. "I've seen hell. It's a place where no-one says what they mean, or means what they say. I live that hell everyday of my life." That statement is factually incorrect too. How can you live a place? To communicate, you have to forget such factual incorrectness and jump for the symbolic correctness. Yes there will be communication errors this way - but its the best we've got. Because if you try to be 100% factually correct, you'll be writing 20 pages of footnotes for every one sentence (and you'll need 20 pages of footnote for each sentence in the footnote too... and 20 pages of ----). Do you think Michael understood what Don thought he was saying, or did Don say what Michael thought he understood him to say????? : ) I think you're 100% right . . . it's the understanding imparted by the symbols (words) that's important . . . not the particular symbols themselves. If you can get your concept across, with understanding by the other party, you have communicated. Regardless of the words used. Getting stuck in the "proper" use of words is like viewing a painting with a microscope. It may be interesting, but it is not necessary to get the viewpoint the artist intended to convey. Hi Millard....yep....ya gotta ENJOY what ya do. I REALLY ENJOY going into a business....meeting the owner...showing him/her how I can bring them more business...quote a price and get them to write me a check.
VEERY REWARDING for ME! They could drop me from a plane and within a day, I'd have figured a way to make money without "looking for a job". THIS "TV Channel Listing" thing is soo easy. The hotels go for this right off, in fact...I've been wanting to get to the Coast before bad weather hits so, I'm going to pick a town...go get 3 hotels to give the OK for my Guides and 1 of them WILL give me 3 nights FREE LODGING. Also, I will be trading off MEALS with the restaurants I put on these. YOU could be doing this in Branson! Oopps. Sorry. Branson has too many "Corporate" restaurants and hotels where the "Decision-Maker" is back in Chicago or Denver or LA...in their "Corporate" offices. Forget that! Give me small towns anyday...where there's Mom & Pops who can "give me a decision NOW...Yay or Nay!" I just revamped my Guide piece whereby I can get 6 Ads on the front and 4 on the back of a larger piece....10 ads for a nifty 4 Grand Gross. Not bad for 2 or 3 days "work". Don Alm |

My good friend Stan who's a "far leftie". Whenever a discussion comes up about our President....if he can't whack George W for the "topic" of his speech or interview...he whacks him for his "pronunciation"...especially of the definitive article "the".
When da Pres is giving a speech..."the" comes out as "tha". And when he's being interviewed or holding a press conference..."the" comes out as "ta". So...Stan...instead of commenting about the MAIN issues the Pres was talking about...ol' Stan brings up George W's use of "ta". Same difference. instead of 0-1-2-4-3-7-6-5-9-8 ? (Yes there is a meaning behind the numeric symbols. But hardly anyone knows the inherent "meaning" yet everyone has the same inherent "value" attached to these numerals. I find it very interesting how these symbols work because of tradition. Cult / religious leaders know that symbols last even after people have forgotten the meaning! Very few businesses have discovered this yet.) "Why is the alphabet in that order? Thanks for Asking about the Meaning of numbers - why they are Those numbers and not some other figures. Certainly, the same can be Asked of words. Why do was say Floor, for example, instead of Wobstan? Why Aqua instead of Ooba? And so on. I am Not certain on All words. Just some. Based on their Ancient meanings and the like. Car being short for Carriage; Sky coming from old words for Clouds - which you could understand as the peasants of an Occupied English Isle asked their Occupiers what they called That - as they pointed up to the sky - and the Occupiers saw Clouds and gave Their word for clouds. But why did They have that word? You'd need to delve back into that. And there are those who Do. For interest, read this about Guy Fawkes to see where we get the word Guy from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes With numbers, as we know them, I can Imagine a start from the Roman Numerals days. Where a One was I and Two was II - as they looked to be written representatives of the physical. And I can see how this representation could Slowly change appearance under different writing styles - much like how language can change due to Bastardising words (and English Is a Bastradised language). But to more Important things... The whole world revolves around VALUE. The business of making money is all about having a VALUE for VALUE exchange. Or to sum that up in one word... TRADE. I TRADE my labor for money. I TRADE my money for Goods. If I buy a property and rent it out, I TRADE accommodation for Money. If I rent property I TRADE my money for accommodation. While there are many corp. owned entities with the "Decision-Maker" In another area, there are also many “more” Mom and Pops in your area than in a small town like Roseburg. Take restaurants for example….. ( The following are listings that include Corp owned Restaurants) Here is a yahoo listing of the restaurants near Roseburg http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypResults.py?...=y&stx=8903827 There are 111 listings Compared to Branson’s Restaurant listings http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypResults.py?...ONz73ZI6L5Hk57 There are over 200 where you are. The Restaurant #’s alone, suggest that you should be able to get at least 2x as many participants making 2x the dough. Heck….. Give it a shot. I would think that with all of the Corp competition, that this op would only play into your presentation and list of bennies to the MOM and POP’S in the area as it would be another way for them to compete with the BIG BOYS Let us know how it works out when you go to the “Days Inn” (for example) and present them with the opportunity. If things work out, you and Don could have a great J.V. OP with your radio program by having him on for an hour or so. |

I want to know what program you used to make the sheets, and did you actually print out 200 of these guides for each room? I'm very interested in doing this project right here. You may remember me from the old forums, as the college kid that was interested in how to make money while in college. I'm interested because I live in new orleans and we have a LARGE influx of construction workers in town to work on businesses and residential property. They all want to know where to eat at locally and other businesses, this will be a great pitch to sale. I am really excited, thanks. |

It just took me a longer time to "Weed" through all the corporate types. Instead of a couple of weeks to do it as Don does, it took me six weeks. Thanks for tossing this in. Ages ago I saw a doco on words. And the HasBeen Drips Under Pressure (Experts) has traced back our First word for water as being Aqua. Now, assuming those Scientists who study Mitopchindrial DNA are correct, we All came from the same tribe somewhere in Africa. Hence, all our languages have their Root in that First language. And, just like the Pitcan Islanders, we bastardise our first language into Similar Sounding, but Different words. Hence, the reason why the word for Mother has a similarness about it no matter which Language you look at. There are also Groups of Languages - such as the Germanic Familiy of Languages. Another Doco showed how the Chinese Written Language was originally formed. When Emperor Thingy wouold write a Character on a plaque that could be carried around. And as his Troops marches along, all day they saw the new Character on a plaque on the back of the soldier in front. And how the Characters are Abstract representations of the real - such as how the character for Man sort of looks like a Man. Going back... why we should ahve chosen words like Aqua and something similar to Mother, and other such words is really Unanswerable. We just did. Welcome to that state of ISNESS once again. So there are 2 theories for language: 1. They originated from one same place - a tribe in Africa - where all other humans come from... 2. They originated from different places - but because the brain patterns are same, they sound the same. We obviously can't go back in time to find the exact answer. But the present can show us light. New words. Slangs. Margaret Magnus did this experiment once. She made up some words that had no meaning. And asked different people to guess what these words meant. And the answers were very similar. This is very interesting: How do we understand the meaning of made-up words in Dr. Seuss's books? http://www.conknet.com/~mmagnus/Suess.html New words originate from their intended phonetic group. -- I understand what you say about ISness Michael. And I'm not trying to find a unified theory that explains everything. More questions will popup for every question we find an answer to. But its fun - atleast for me - to find out what makes us tick. Finding such patterns of language or emotions or facial features will help us become better commnicators too. |
