Re: It's time for those 2009 Trend predictions... Share your Secrets...

I think trend prediction is largely a waste of time except in specific fields such as appliance colors, clothing, or long term forecasting (as in technology) etc.

Why? Because people are creatures of habit. Unless you take established habits, whether buying habits, use habits, or whatever habits into consideration and go from that point, you have very little chance of changing people's behavior patterns long term. Short term, perhaps, but not long term. Why do you think most New Years Resolutions are soon forgotten? They're bandages, not solutions for the long term.

That being said, you need to become AWARE of these patterns and habits. Then, if you wish to exploit or modify behavior patterns, you have to begin from where the customer IS, not where you'd like them to be. From there on, you can build as you wish but not until you understand and appreciate what foundation the customer/client is standing on first.

Not what you expected, perhaps, but definitely food for thought for any marketer.

I plan on swooping down on local businesses, prying those cute little folding pieces of green paper with dead presidents on them from their quivering hands.:D

It won't be a cake-walk, but it CAN and will be done to the tune of several hundred bucks per week.

Did you know that 80% of people searching for products and services (even locally) now do it online? Only if they can't find a local source listed online do they turn to the Yellow Pages.

Phil,

You know me well.

A dark and dire forecast for 2009.

Well, the one trend that will continue is the Recession/Depression. And for Michael Ross, NO, I haven’t been reading my Kurt Saxon, but it might be a good time for all of us to start.

I see Martial Law in the streets of America with armed thugs and riots the likes we haven’t seen since the 60’s. I see shortages. In fact, when the rich guys start hoarding the gold and diamonds, the rest of us should stockpile toilet paper and rice.

There will NOT be any segment of the American and world economy that isn’t going to be greatly impacted in the next 6 months. You will see unemployment in double digits. Inflation/Deflation (a made up word for OOOPS Sorry about that) at record highs.

The housing market has NOT even bottomed out yet.

In 2009, more people than at any time in history will be personally effected by a natural disaster including wild fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, twisters and more by man created ones including infrastructure failure.

The numbers of Gov’t employees will increase substantially in the first 6 months while the debt reaches heretofore never reached heights. There is a not so quiet layer of chaos that is circulating around the globe and you will see the sleeping bear of Russia come out of it’s deep sleep with all teeth glaring.

There have always been Chicken Littles over the years from Howard Ruff in the 70’s to today, and the sky has never fallen, yet.

It is about to.

I’m convinced the people walking around the malls and Wal-Mart and TARGET are totally oblivious to the seriousness of the coming worldwide meltdown. There are those on this board who have written their opinions about the recession and how false it is. Please come back this time next year and we’ll compare notes, OK?

There is a recession, there was and is OUTSOURCING that has had a major impact on the American economy whether you "believe" that there is no such thing or not.

I see very dark and dire times in 2009 for most of YOU and the world.
But then, I got vision and the rest of the world wears bifocals. (Thanks Butch Cassidy).

One Trend In A Sea of Text

Gordon,

Thanks for your positive outlook.

I agree. Everyone should read a bit of Kurt Saxon - well maybe not Everyone, but you know. Even if times are good. A little preparedness is a good thing - like a little paranoia.

People should also know how to Hunt - thus own a rifle to do so, even a small air rifle is capable of taking small game which can be eaten (squirrels for example, wild turkeys, rabbits, hares, etc.) but is not really something lethal to humans per se.

People Should have fruit trees growing in their yards. Even a small area for some veggies.

Some dynamo powered devices - torches, radio - in case batteries are not handy or too cumbersome to lug around.

As mentioned, large 10kg bag of rice. Canned food is good for storage. Ah, the old Irish Stew. Spam or equivalent. Canned veggies too. Maybe some packets of 2 minute noodles - the ones in the packet and those in their own cup. Dried peas. For a hundred spot you can buy Heaps of such food that could probably feed a couple of people for a month, as long as they don't guts themselves.

On top of this, some bottled water could be a wise investment. You just never know.

The food/water emergency backup doesn't take up much space and could be loaded into a normal sized car and taken with you, if you need to move. And bought in bits and pieces over a few weeks too.

An air rifle with a couple of tins of pellets - JSB Exacts have proven to be the most accurate in a range of air rifles - together with your food backup could do you for quite a while. Take a fishing rod (collapsible to save space) as well :) - checkout http://www.pyramydair.com/ for air powered rifles and pistols and reviews.

Ok. Not a preparedness/survivalist thread. But, such things do become more Popular as times turn bad. So, there is a trend. Preparedness/Survivalist info and gear and equipment.

Onward.

I'm one of the outsourcing people. Not that I question that it happens. But my stance is, it has ALWAYS happened. Whether it's outsourcing across town, state, country - or - across the water that separates the land masses. So I don't see it as anything New.

And, even rather simple operations that don't think they outsource, actually do. Even if all you sell are home published books and reports - and like Kurt Saxon, place them on CDs - you still outsource. As someone else made the blank CDs you put your stuff on to. Someone else made the envelopes you ship it in. And so on.

Unless you own ALL the means of production from Primary Resource through to basic smelting plants, manufacturing plants and so on. Unless you own each possible business that makes any item you use in your operation, you outsource in some way.

So there is no question that outsourcing takes place. The only question is Where things are outsourced to.

Onward.

Recession wise. Apart from Official Data that says, we've had a certain amount of growth, or lack thereof, for a specified period of time. Apart from that, what designates a recession as opposed to normal every day events?

Is toilet paper theft from work on the rise? Are more people taking the Charity Candy without putting their money in the slot? Are there increased drive offs from gas stations?

If the media doesn't report it, how does average Joe know there is a recession?

I don't care if unemployment goes up, to whatever it gets to, the majority of people still have a job of some kind. So with that in mind, How does that Employed person know there is a recession? How are they effected?

The construction industry pretty well grinds to a halt during the Yuletide/Winter Solstice Season. So it's no surprise that around this time Rumor comes of a major scaffold company laying off 40-50 guys in my city due to a decline in work. BUT, speaking with one of the Scaffolders who works for that company, the truth becomes... there was a quiet two weeks and they Considered it - but - then we had a surge and we're all flat out again. And if they'd laid off those guys they couldn't supply customers who'd have to go to other companies.

Others in the industry report a Decline in Residential work and an Increase in Commercial work. So they just do more Commercial Work instead of Residential Work. It's the way the money flows. And it makes sense...

For decades money has flowed into market segments that the baby boomers grew threw. For years baby supply places Boomed then dwindled off as that surge of babies had passed. Same goes for whatever the Boomers did. But it doesn't just apply to the Boomers. All generations have their own little Quirks.

For instance, down here Gen X (and some cross over Gen Y) has got the renovating bug. Where they will get an older home and Do It Up. Rip up the carpet and redo the floorboards, for example.

As a result, there has been an Increase in floorboard installers, floorboard replica products, etc. BUT, eventually, that surge will die down as those who were going to do it, did it. And Business for those businesses will decline. They will need to lay off staff. And for Them, it's recession time.

Point. Different generations throw their money into different areas at different times. The spending trends change. While some areas surge, others decline. Some remain constant - fruit and vegetable stores, for example, always seem to do a brisk trade because people need to eat.

And so I ask... to the employed person, how do they know it's recession time?

Onward.

Riots. Granted, we Always have riots. Every year we have riots. If it's not the socialists rioting about the G8 meeting or some such around September or whenever they are, it's some other group - like in Greece and now flowing into Europe at the moment.

But I notice you say, since the 60s. So that would mean an Increase in riots. Over what, it would be good to know. War? Tax hikes? Racial preferential treatments or lack thereof?

It is true that when the American Economy sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold. At least it Seems that way. Which is to be expected considering a LOT of international trade is done in $US, oil is traded in it. And the American Consumer's consumption has kept producers around the planet in business for a long time. So at some point, when consumption goes throw a down part of a cycle, others suffer. But money still flows. Just to other areas.

Like in bad times, survivalist stuff.

A dark and dire for the few not the masses.

Wow Gordon,

I never realized that you were such a "Doom and Gloom" kind of person.

The problem I'm having with all of this, is simply this. Now that the secretary of Treasury, Henry Paulson got his $700 Billion Dollar wish, he is not tapping into it and is not making the banks follow through by making loans as was required when this bill was drafted and passed by OUR US GOVERNMENT!!!

What happened to if the banks can't make loans, our financial sector will collapse? Where is the urgency now? Did something magically happen where our banks are now stable?

Bernie Franks, the Chairman of the Finance Committee is furious about this because it was him and Henry Paulson that wrote that bill together and got it passed. But now the distribution of this money is not taking place.

Let's also not forget that the Department of Treasury just acquired an additional $2,000,000,000,000 trillion dollars of US taxpayer monies and is not disclosing why they were granted this, on who's authority, and will not disclose who will receive this money.

Now another revelation has been exposed to the American public. It turns out that the Big 3 auto bailout was really only for 2 of the Big 3. All that scariness if they don't get their monies all three are going under, but now Ford isn't. What happened there? Did something magically happen that now Ford is stable?

The other point I want to make is that our total US population is over 300,000,000 million and is rapidly approaching 400,000,000 million. But we're talking about a meltdown of a country where 1-1.5 million Americans may be out of work. What about the other 298,000,000 million citizens that are still working? Our country is not going to meltdown nor is going to collapse.

I know by this time next year, I will still be here and I will be still making sales and making money.

For those that have lost their jobs, if they are serious about working then they will do what it takes to get that ball rolling again. For those who want to stand on street corners, with their resumes plastered on sign boards, are silly and foolishly wasting their of time.

Every moment they stand there, they are not making an effort to bring in an income. 2009 will be dire for them, but not those who wake up tomorrow and get busy starting all over.

BTW, economists are still stating that our markets are still bullish and that bargains are everywhere. I say, 2009 is going to be a feeding frenzy and it is rapidly approaching a buyer's market. Especially for the small investor.

Ankesh December 15, 2008 01:58 AM

Re: A dark and dire for the few not the masses.

Thanks L.B.

Small error with numbers in your post... US population is over 300 million. 300,000,000.

300,000,000 billion = 300,000,000,000,000,000.

(Same error with $2,000,000,000 trillion. Which = $2 billion trillion.)

And the unemployment rate in US is reaching 10%. So 1 out of every 10 will be out of a job. Thats 30 million people. Or 30,000,000 out of 300,000,000.

But disregarding these number errors, I agree with:

The Productive Find Ways

LB and Ankesh, thanks.

Re unemployment. I wonder how these Numbers are figured out.

And agree that those who want to work will find work, while those who don't will find nothing.

Cases in point...

Friend's brother. Jobless. Has been for 9 months now. Can't find a job. Let me clarify... cannot find a middle/upper management job he can walk right in to. So Chooses to remain jobless.

Fellow is on the Dole for 10 years. Says, after trying for 1,000 jobs he cannot find one. I quickly calculate... 100 jobs a year is 2 a week. Minimum requirement to get the dole is Try for 2 jobs a week. And trying can be as simple as a Phone Call...

Hi, I'm calling about the Brain Surgeon position. Is it gone yet?

In the end the Dole Office gave him a job working for them.

He could easily have signed with any number of Labor Hire businesses and would have been working the very next day. Laboring. But hey, don't knock it unless you've tried it. And some laborers make $80k a year down here. Some make less. But $50 - $60k is easily achievable for a laborer. Office workers get paid $40k if they are lucky, more like $30k. And most spend years in Uni to get a degree so they can look down on grubby laborers.

If you want to work, you'll find work. If not, you'll find excuses. Then you can blame the recession and riot in the street :)

I went back and double checked my resources and you are correct about the population being in the millions not the billions. I've got to hunt and peck better.

As for the unemployed, on 12/05/08 the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported those that are unemployed are at 10.3 million not 30 million. Our unemployment rate went from 6.6 to 6.7%.

Re: It's time for those 2009 Trend predictions... Share your Secrets...

Guess what "J.O.B." is MOST WANTED in the U.S.of A.....in our collapsing economy (according to AOL and USA Today)?????

Yup! "SALES"! BOTH "Inside and Outside" SALES!

Why?

Because, without "Sales"....NOTHING HAPPENS! NOTHING MOVES! Products and services do NOT get SOLD!

So...once again, "US Salespeople" will not only survive but THRIVE! Even if this thing turns into a full-blown Depression.

When I started my first job out of college....it was with General Electric Corp. I was an "engineer" being paid a "pittance" compared to the "Sales" Engineers.

So....I applied for the "Sales" engineer job that came available and discovered that I LOVED "Selling Stuff"....so....I decided that if I could "Sell" for a giant corp....why couldn't I "sell" for MYSELF?

So...after doing much research and looking for a "Business" I could start, I found a company in Florida that had a "New-Type" of Home Burglar Alarm.

So...I bought their "Starter Kit" and set up my new business...which involved "Selling" Burglar Alarms to Home Owners....which I could do in the evening....and keep my "Day Job".

Well...after a few weeks of trying to "sell" my Home Alarm....I had made a few presentations BUT, NO "Sales"....although I "felt" I was getting closer and getting better...with each presentation.

THEN....one evening, when I was about to "call it quits"....I gave a presentation to a dentist and when I showed him my estimate....he said, "OK! When can you start?"

You could have blown me over with a feather!

I was packing up my kit and getting ready to say, "Good Bye! Thanks for your time!"....and because I was expecting a "No!"....I didn't hear his Agreement....and he had to repeat himself, "Hey Don! WHEN can you start?"

Holy Schamoly! My FIRST order! My pen was shaking as I was filling in the spaces on my Order Form.

Then...as I was installing my first alarm on a Saturday....TWO Neighbors came over and asked if I'd come over and "give them an estimate". Which I did and which turned into 2 more installations and those turned into a few more and I then decided that "SALES" was for me...and I gave my 2-week notice to GE and NEVER LOOKED BACK.

So....no matter what you folks hear from anyone....no matter how bad you hear the economy is doing.....if you have a "Knack" for "Sales"....you will do OK!

Re: 3 Other People Who Said "NO" to Chocolate

Dear Chris,

Thanks for telling me about the Wife.

She is in the minority if she dislikes chocolate.

Part of selling is not taking it personally when prospects say, "NO."

a - An affluent prospect in FL asked for a F-r-e-e sample. Then said it was too expensive. Keeps sending me links to Cheap, sugar candy chocolate.

b - Another lady sent me a 200.00 gift - after I sent her a chocolate sample. Said she loved it. Never bought more. I'm scratching my head on this one.

c - A woman ate up samples from me for 2 weeks. Said her blood pressure dropped 40 points. But then she claimed she couldn't afford to order any chocolate. Doctors visits alone are costing her many times what she'd spend.

Oh well. Can't please them all.

I've been tipping waitresses with Chocolate too.

I was startled - at 1st when A dozen women said, "I hate chocolate." But they saved me from throwing away my samples. So I say, "Thanks for telling me. I won't give you any."

You should see their faces when the gals around them pipe up and say, "I LIKE Chocolate!" And I give it to them instead.

Since THIS stuff tastes like Godiva level chocolate.

Yet has no refined sugar or milk in it.

All I'm doing is finding Choco-holics - and switching them to something HEALTHY they can eat and not get fat from.

So those who say, "NO" save me time & chocolate samples.

Like your wife.

Don't waste any of the chocolate I sent you on her, OK?

Thanks,
Glenn

P.S. - What did your kids think of the Chocolate samples I sent you?

She saw the chocolate square and didn't know how to
say the name on the chocolate wrapper.

Chocolate Seems to Make Women Hyper and Excited

Dear Christopher,

Thanks for that family feedback.

Women seem to have an Emotional Relationship with chocolate. IF you can get the "Healthy Chocolate stuff" in their mouths. TOUCH-DOWN. It sells itself.

I've been tipping waitresses, gas station attendants, food store clerks with "Energy Chocolate".

I don't tell them any brand names.

AND

After 4 or 5 ladies Did Not eat it. Said they'd save it for "later". I started treating women clerks and sales people like I was the Mama Bird and they were the Baby bird.

The SECRET?

Stick chocolate in their mouth.

Here's what I say:

DO YOU LIKE CHOCOLATE?

They nod, "YEs."

I give a big grin.

Start unwrapping the gold foil and say, "SAY AAAAAHHHH."

"OPEN WIDE.

"Here it comes. Over the teeth and gums.

And I stick it into her mouth.

Still holding onto the wrapper.

I fed a sales gal 4 pieces one day - and she kept 7 other people waiting while she helped Me.

Great fun.

Good selling practice too.

It helped me realize my biggest problem sending chocolate samples in Tupperware Jars was. Many of my clients and prospects NEVER TASTED THE CHOCOLATE!

I know this cuz I called them on the phone and asked.

I had to Convince them this was not CANDY chocolate. It's got no refined sugar or milk in it at all.

=============
=============
For Best Results 1 on 1 Chris...

I - Eat The "Energy Chocolate" in front of women

Re: Trends for the next 10 years

I've never been good with realizing 1 year trends. But here are a few things I think are going to go HOT-HOT-HOT within the next few years.

1. We will crack the code to having wireless electricity for all sorts of devices. (Actually we already have done so in labs. In the next few years, we will see it on the market.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_energy_transfer
http://www.popsci.com/node/16714
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...city-home.html

2. Corollary - we may also see an increase in cancer because of wireless electricity. Or at least a scare - that wireless electricity could cause cancer - and the top scientists will be divided on the issue. (Just like with cellphones.)

And we will see a lot more products like:
http://blogs.computerworld.com/compa...es_rad iation

3. We will see a lot more hybrid and electric cars. I won't be surprised to not find any new fuel based cars being made within 10 years.

We will see gas stations for electric and hybrid cars being standardized. Mostly to the standards set by Better Place:
http://www.betterplace.com/our-bold-plan/how-it-works/

4. We will finally crack solar energy... how to get it for cheap.

5. Getting your DNA will be the new hot thing. Genetic testing will become huge and cheap too... People will be finding out what diseases you could get based on your DNA code.

Google has already invested in:
https://www.23andme.com/

6. We will see a decrease in people spending big bucks only because of brand names. The brands will constantly have to innovate like how Nike does it. If they rely on just their historical brand value, they won't do well. But if they invest in R&D - they will.

Example - Speedo with their swimming costumes:
http://themedicieffect.typepad.com/s...le-perspe.html

Companies like IceBreaker will do very well.
http://www.icebreaker.com/site/perfo...aclefibre.html

7. Scientists will finally figure out that we experience taste because of the vibrations of the atoms that are in the food we eat. Which will result in a whole new industry of creating food preservative products without any of their downsides.

We will go nano on food. For eg: scientists will see the type of vibrations atoms in corn syrup have. Then find atoms with similar vibrations and create artificial corn syrup. But without the fattening properties.

Yes - We will be seeing more healthy food products that are made in labs - and eventually - factories.

8. We will see an increase in defense budgets of almost all countries. But we will also see unobtrusive defense products being made.

Eg: http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/12/02/a...ity/index.html

Photo Of Tesla Coil Shooting Electricity Thru the Air

Dear Ankesh,

Thanks for the NEW Wire-less electricity info.

Nicola Tesla is mentioned many times in your links.

Tesla invented Radio (Not Marconi) & invented the exact AC current and Alternating current motors we use today.

Then he figured out how to send electricity - without wires - thru the ground - for miles. (It worked. Tesla got light bulbs to light by sticking them into the dirt - 5 miles away from his lab.)

AND

After measuring the vibration frequency of the Earth. He sent power thru the air too at his Colorado test lab. Finding best results High up in the atmosphere - above the ground where the Air did not interfere with power transmission.

Needing Money to fund more research - Tesla wrote an article which got J. Pierpont Morgan to put up 150K for his Wyercliff Tower Project. A cheap method of transferring electric power.

But then the banker discovered that Tesla planned to send electricity thru the air FREE.

So Morgan bankrupted Tesla. Who had a nervous breakdown after he ran out of money.

George Westinghouse stopped paying him. None of Tesla's other partners wanted FREE Electricity or long distance transmission without wires, either.

They wanted to CHARGE for it.

100 years ago Tesla figured it out in his head. Then successfully tested all of this.

Including pulling electricity out of the air and ground. Tesla discovered that electricity is all around us, inside us - everything is made up of electricity.

He thought of the Human body as a "Meat Machine" powered by electricity. One of his machines measured the sudden power spark when an arm muscle was flexed.

Now we come forward 100 years to today.

7 feet vs 5 miles

In your Article links - Modern Scientists sent electromagnetic power 7 feet. By tuning the motor and the light bulb to the same wave length. (Despite what they say I think it dangerous to have Huge amounts of ODD vibrational Electromagnetic energy in the air around us.)

Tesla's electromagnetic energy was SAFE.

HE tuned power supply and receiver to the same EARTH Frequency. We're living inside that frequency already so it's pretty darn safe. Then Sent power many miles with crude equipment.

Have you seen this photo of his Tesla Coil
shooting electricty btwn the coil and the "ground" in Tesla's lab? As long as you wore rubber soled shoes it was safe.

Re: Photo Of Tesla Coil Shooting Electricity Thru the Air

Thanks Glenn.

My opinion = Tesla is a genius. But his free electricity from earth's frequency was a pipe dream. It never worked. This is just my opinion.

I base my opinion on the knowledge that Tesla's patents are public domain. And yet - no one has been able to find success in generating electricity from Earth using the information from his patents. As far as I know - Tesla has never proven the generation of electricity using Earth-resonance principles himself - even on a smaller scale.

Also - I dont think JP Morgan was a fool. Morgan is the guy who saved US economy twice. Dont you think he could have thought of a way of charging for the electricity generated by Tesla's ideas - even though Tesla may have wanted to make it available for free?

In 1900 - Morgan backed Tesla and invested $150,000 for the building of Tesla Tower. In 1903 - when the Tesla tower was nearing completion - it was still not functional. At that time, Morgan asked Tesla how would they make money. And Tesla said that he intended to make electricity free. Everyone remembers that Morgan then stopped backing the building of Tesla Tower. No one remembers that the Tesla Tower had never been functional.

I may be wrong - but I dont think Tesla managed to generate free electricity from Earth.

(As far as I know - JP Morgan didn't bankrupt Tesla. He just stopped his funding of the Tesla tower. Also George Westinghouse didn't stop his payments to Tesla. The patents to AC current that Westinghouse had bought expired. He didn't have to pay Tesla anymore.)

Rotating 68 Foot Tower To Be Built in Dubai

Dear Ankesh,

Thanks.

Although I've read all Tesla's books and much about him.

I don't think we'll ever know what happened.

Tesla invented stuff in his head.

He was a dreamer. Not a business man.

I must admit that I find it fascinating that nobody (for 100 years) seems to be able to duplicate or surpass this ONE Man.

Anyway.

Speaking of genius.

Have you seen the YouTube videos of this 68 story Hi-rise that Rotates?

Each floor rotates!

If you own that floor - you can push a button and SPIN.

Self supporting energy and electricity.

The good thing about having trillions of our oil money is the Sheik in Dubai is exploring crazy new ideas NOBODY else will try.

A good test ground.

A lot like the NEW discoveries that came from the Apollo Space program. Or out of Nicola Tesla's head.

You keep what works. Throw the rest away.

Re: It's time for those 2009 Trend predictions... Share your Secrets...

The home-made electric generator should not take you very long to make. Even a large machine, made with the intention of creating an alternative source of energy to power your entire home, should take no more than half a morning or so to build, even for those who would not normally undertake such an electrical home improvement project.

Good luck..!

Re: A dark and dire outlook for 2009. HOW Wrong was I?

OK, how far off was I back in Dec. 08?

I forecast DIRE. It wasn't as bad as I THOUGHT, so that is a good thing.

The recession did continue and is still far from over with, and I'm thinking today, we're still not at the bottom.

Riots in the streets? Only on the border towns and mostly because one drug lord couldn't take out the other one.

As long as we keep the supply of drugs flowing to the inner cities and suburbs of America, we may stave off the rioting for awhile longer. It has always been part of the plan. There has NEVER been a "War on Drugs". We couldn't afford to have the supply cut off.

Shortages haven't yet hit, but the train hasn't stopped either. A long train takes many miles to slow down and stop. However, the rich are getting what they believe is a hedge against the coming INFLATION by buying up gold and silver, to all time price highs. Meanwhile, the beans and rice and toilet paper are slowly creeping up, almost undetected.

Unemployment in double digits? In many areas. Or close to it.

The inflation has been postponed by the bailouts and printing of money. Still on my radar.

Housing? You tell me how your area is doing? And along with that, how about the number of vacancies in older "shopping" areas? How ya all doing with that?

We do have record number of Gov't workers, a trend which will continue, at the expense of us all.

Russia? The bear may not have come fully awake, but we've heard more about her recently than in the last several years. DON'T forget about Russia.

The sky did NOT fall, however, it may have come down a few feet.

Man made disasters due to "infrastructure" failing? One might argue the oil wells have infrastructure which apparently were in need of some attention. Actually, I'm amazed we didn't see more of these stories, especially in the electric grid, water supply.

Natural disasters? An easy thing to predict? We'll have another one, and then another. And then another.

Worldwide meltdown? Seriously Gordon?

Hey, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, etc. are all OK now, right? And China is smokin and growing. And North Korea... what's there to say about it. The "meltdown" may be a slower burning pot of stew than I thought.

Those of you that thought in late 08 the recession was NOT a big deal, please come back and make your case that is wasn't/isn't.

Although most of YOU did OK, or as good as always, there were a few people who did indeed have a dire and dark 09.

Now, midway through 2010, I see nothing but good times, world peace and brotherhood and unprecedented consumerism...and enough Entertainment to soothe our souls no matter how bad the pessimists see things.

Well, I'm doom and gloom...and BLISS.

OK L.B. We've let time go by.

As for me being Doom and Gloom, always have seen things in reality, but I choose Bliss.

What advice L.B. do you give those who lost their jobs? The ones who are serious about "starting over".

Is it a Just Do It sort of thing? And if so, do what?

You tell me, was 09 a spectacular feeding frenzy in the bullish market and was it a good time to buy? It probably was for some, especially the insiders.

For those that have lost their jobs, if they are serious about working then they will do what it takes to get that ball rolling again.

... they are not making an effort to bring in an income.
