Hi all, new here!

Been lurking on and off for some time here and figured it was time to sign up and become a member. Looks like a nice tight knit group with utmost respect for one another, really nice too see!

I bought Bob Ross's wso re the 9x12 billboard but soon realized it's a hard sell and I am a softie.... I really like Gordon's mini booklet idea and I am in the process of educating myself on the variables.

I originally found this forum after searching for threads about Don Alm. His type of projects is what I'd enjoy doing, maybe with an upgrade or two.

Anyhow, glad to be here,

Eva

Hi Eva,

Welcome!

There are a lot of pretty knowledgeable people here, with great ideas and experiences to tap!

I myself am often in awe at some of the amazing information that gets posted here, by some pretty sharp people...

I hope you like it here. :)

Best wishes,

Dien

P.S. Sorry to everyone that I haven't posted much lately, as I've been a bit ill - though I'm almost well now, I think...

Thank you Dean,

I'm on a hunt right now for an affordable booklet printer but it does not seem they exist. Figured I could do up to 250 of the mini booklets myself.

Crazy what they charge! On second thought, maybe I should have left my intro thread to just that and not combining it with Gordon's idea? Sorry for the confusion,

Eva

there ya go Again..thanks Phil ! ( I have developed a philTranslator ...Philsilatator.com...program , now I simply copy and paste , input into the software and , after sometime, get the final readouts...which are for sale for 99 bux plus shipping and handling) or you may purchase the software from Microsoft site for 299999.

Re: Hi all, new here!

Thank you guys for your responses. As far as gotprint goes, was actually one the phone with them yesterday. Their booklets are way too big and they will only do the listed sizes. Looked at clubcards but they will only print on card stock.

Best for small runs would be to purchase a heavy duty paper trimmer or Staples will make cuts for $2 and cut 250 sheets or if heavier 200 sheets for the same amount per cut, then assemble myself.

Would also need a specialized stapler, no biggie.

Thanks Phil for all the links, really am not into bartering, like to keep it simple. Will read through all of Paulette's, surely will find some gems hidden in there that will work for me.

I'd like to make my booklets stand out. I will put in the extra effort to include a coverstock for each booklet. I just recently purchased the whole Master Collection from Adobe and I am in the process of learning InDesign and Illustrator.

There's a new wso coming out on 3/21 from bob ross in the WF in regards how to make money with direct mail and other printed pieces. I am bringing this up, not because I am getting any financial benefit from it but simply because I belive it is going to be worth the $9.71 the wso is priced at initially and if you buy it within the first 24 hours, you will get the OTO for free. That is the one that is a tutorial on how to use Illustrator to design your own stuff.

The whole purpose of the booklet to me is two-fold, a foot in the door while making some money and then take it from there to sell them other stuff.

Thanks again, Eva

Re: Hi all, new here!

hi Eva....it is really simple , for me , anyway to get my foot in the door.
I take my little flip camera, put on my clown nose ( it is red ) , have the little ladies with me in bikinis ( them not me ) stroll around the area you wish to promote..and , believe it or not, folks come up to me, and ask ...what is going on? from there , it is all entertainment. thinking I will do one of those 'events' and sell it as a WSO...it would certainly be as good as the ones I have seen lately! btw...I notice that no one has bought my. Philsilatator.com software? come one guys, support each other??? thanks

I forgot how much fun it is to be here ~

Bob, sounds to me you're ready to do some "ballooning"! I wish I had a link for you to the lady I saw years ago, twisting balloons at fairs and private parties, she was the bomb! Never seen anything like it and her fees started at $50 an hour for private parties and unlimited income doing fairs and festivals.

Back to the topic (booklets, remember...)?

pocketmod dot c o m (can't provide a link until I got 10 posts but you get it)
has an interesting way to fold and just with one snip, voila', done!

Here's my latest thinking.....

Would a town, city or (can't spell municipalty) possibly be interested in a "phone book" booklet with every imaginable phone number for whatever services they have to offer?

All emergency numbers, city hall, social services, dog pound, weed abatement, domestic violence, town major, city council, building department, hazardous waste and so on.

Yes, that would be on a larger scale and nothing I would be capable of assembling myself but if one booklet was included in whatever else the town sent out to their residents, no additional postage would be needed.

And yes, only testing will tell.

Watcha' think?

Still market for the ballooning...spring, summer, fall....think seasonal gathering places, malls with permission, beaches, flea markets, busy city street, etc..

Balloons handed out with donation box nearby....kids naturally drawn to them...no price charged...psychologically parent feels obligated to drop money in the donation box...not always but almost always...remuneration can be quite substantial.....and because not setting fixed prices but donations most areas will allow....could need a buskers license though in some locals.

Just food for thought.

I posted about this quite some time ago...probably in archives somewhere....heck...could even have been on a different forum.

I am a "one on one" kind of person meaning I do best speaking to one then to a crowd. Not that chatty in a group environment really. And when it comes to kids, well, don't have any, enough to take care of myself.....

Working through Paulette's archives right now, lots of good info. Dying to get the wso tomorrow, then I'm going to make up some samples for myself and by doing so, actually learning.

A big adventure ahead of me, hopefully profitable enough eventually,

Eva, what do you think of the latest from Bob Ross?

There's lots of good info in there ... still working on my "course of action" for it, but just learning some of the software info on the OTO will be worth the investment.

Good luck, and keep posting!

I read Ross's WSO and from I could decipher it is nothing more than being a print broker. That should be the easiest thing in the world to do given the cheap online printing sites plus the need for the locals to have print materials like envelopes, letterhead and business cards.

If you have any info that I'm missing please post it. I don't want you to post his product all I want to know if I'm missing the point.

Regarding the "course of action" - is that simply another way to say USP, unique selling proposition?

As for the design portion of his offering, if I'm on track, photoshop, paint.net, gimp and few others can make you look like a genius design wise.

Again, don't post his product, simply tell me if I am off base.

Thanks,

Tom

Well, in regards to bob's latest wso, well worth the 10 bucks. As far as labeling it being a print broker, I disagree. When it comes to the software needed (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), that can be purchased with a student discount at $319, or rent it at $49 a month which of course is a biz expense.

There is also a free 30 day trial.

Evidently I am wrong about it being a print broker wso. Would you care to tell us what it is, again w/o giving away Bob's wso.

You don't have to say a word but you said you had it and it isn't about being a print broker. That certainly is the overtone on his wso.

What is true and NOT true.

Dien and I have an agreement, we don't second guess the other guy, and we share that with the moderators.

IF anyone's post gets deleted, they can appeal to Dien who is one of the most objective and level headed players on the Internet.

I've been deleted...and SO has Dien. And after discussing the reasons, we're pretty much always in agreement.

We protect the forum.

Period.
You don't see most of the drop in, fly by, spam that covers other forums, because we both spend time (and the moderators) EVERYDAY TO clean it off and since all the moderators are around the world, we can cover the board throughout the day

So here is what I told Don, and I'll say iit to everyone else.

Obey the rules, you won't have a problem. The FACT is the only people we've ever banned were the Don Alm BASHERS as you call them.

But in fairness, Don brought alot of that on himself.

Don Alm is always welcome to post here, as long as he follows the rules same as anyone else. Hell, he always brings a little controversy with him, and that jumps the "ratings" so to speak.

Even the sophisticated SowPubbers like a train wreck apparently.

I have a ZERO tolerance policy, and if I'm wrong, you (being everyone) can appeal to Dien and if he feels I've made an error in my judgement, he'll bring it up and we'll discuss it.

Don has not been banned, but, in reality, the Warrior Forum is probably better suited to receive Don's messages than we are at this point.

ONLY the couple of BANNED Don bashers (and they sign up with fake names and email, nothing we can do except ban their IP, but too many proxies available)...so we delete them when they show up AND they always do when Don posts.

So, Steve, and others, I take offense.

WE work too damn hard to keep this forum, maybe smaller than it could be...but, we've been doing it for 12 years now...many of our contemporaries have become ghosts towns, or like the WF, a Wild West show where the Black Hats and the White Hats have daily showdowns.

The Don Bashing Fan Club is alive and well at the WF too, but, as long as it stays over there, we don't have a problem.

For the record, I like Don. We've exchanged ideas over the years.

But whether I like or dislike anyone, has nothing to do with how this forum operates and will continue to operate hopefully, for a long time to come.

AND, like I've told several people in the past, we're NOT the only forum on the Net, if you DON'T like or can't obey the rules...Take your voice down the road, cause it ain't welcome here.

OR, as I suggested to Don and others...

YOU guys are always free to start your own...then, maybe, you'll get an understanding of what it takes to keep a forum decent without going down the anything goes road, or the self-serving fascist way some personal forums are run.

We've had a great exchange of ideas for over a decade, and differing opinions are always welcome... but civility will rule the day...or there won't be a SowPub. Dien and I are absolutely in agreement on that.

Be Civil. Say anything you want. If you need a refresher or if you are new, read the post by Dien Rice on how to post to sowpub.

Gordon Alexander

Nothing revolutionary but he does share his resources to outsourcers and printing companies and tips and ideas on how to profit, what to charge, throw in the design tutorials plus his own private forum and there you go. I did check out their retail prices and well, they suck... Using the 9x12 bob card as an example, there paper quality is less and they charge almost $900 more than what I can get through bob. I highly doubt their wholesale discounts are in the 45-48% range. But, who knows. On top of that, I would have to add 10% sales tax, yikes!

Thanks for the link though, Eva

I certainly appreciate your answer. I don't believe the 10 bucks is the issue. It might be to you, don't know. I was merely asking what the thrust of his program was if it isn't print brokering.

To be honest, don't even care. Bob always over delivers so I know his program is worth 13X more than what he asked.

Oh, welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy the learning experience.

My problem with a "Direct Mail" project like this, besides the inexperience of those folks getting involved (Maybe it's the "supposed"...."hoped for"...$5,000 Profit being hung out like a carrot).....is;

The cost is around $2,500 for 10,000 Cards to be Designed, Printed and Mailed. I've been in the Direct Sales biz for a long time and I NEVER start a project that going to cost me OVER $1,000! Because....if I don't get enough paying clients....I have to refund the money they paid.

One of my Ad Projects is a 8 1/2 by 11 Fridge Magnet (it has "Important Phone Numbers at the top....a 12 mo Calendar and 4 Columns wide by 6 Rows down for a total of 24 Ad Spaces)

These Mags cost me $2 ea to be printed and mailed. I print and mail 150/mo.

Guess to whom I mail these Informative Fridge Mags (with 3 Reasons to keep them ON the fridge).....New Movers! People who have moved recently.

And....guess what kind of Advertisers I start contacting? "New Businesses" I get from my City Hall and County Courthouse.

I commit my advertisers to 3 months.....150 mailed each month. I print up 450 magnets. My cost is $2 x 450 = $900.

I charge $150 one-time set up and $450 (3 mos in advance) for a total of $600!....to have an EXCLUSIVE AD on the Refrigerators of 450 New Movers for th next 12 months!

$600 x 20 = $12,000 less $900

Don Alm....Sales Guy

Don,

You said:

"I NEVER start a project that going to cost me OVER $1,000!"

Makes 100% complete sense. In my research I found that NV (where I live) offers a fantastic business opportunity via their statutes. The creators must by law be Nevadans and be at least three. The members don't have to be Nevadans.

The benefits are huge and only the members can take advantage of the benefits. For example, it can make loans without any special licenses. Think about that for a minute. It can be a venture capital organization without any special licenses or it can own a movie studio. In other words, the org and its members (only) can do any thing that is legal.

Oh yeah, what is NV known for? Yep, can do that too.

Anyway, my first question is how would you price an annual membership being a $1000 is your limit? Second question, would anyone anywhere in the world be willing to become a member knowing just the above info?

No, I haven't done anything with it yet other than create a name. I used another statute to create another business.

I'm just putting this out on the table especially since I've read some of the latest WSOs. Recycled horse crap but who am I to say...:) I guarantee this would be the only ever unique product offered on any forum.

Again, I'm just tossing this out for general consumption. I like this forum and its inhabitants. My "secret" company could be the only greatest idea ever presented to the masses :D and this forum's members might be the beneficiaries.

Have a great day.

Don, would you care to share your source for the refrigerator magnetic calendars? If not, maybe you could just tell us how much you pay for them as a guideline for what they could be had for?

Thank you, Eva

Six weeks of residency makes anyone a Nevadan.

The benefits are huge and only the members can take advantage of the benefits. For example, it can make loans without any special licenses. Think about that for a minute. What is it that keeps me, an alien, from doing anything legal in Nevada?

I can make a loan in Nevada, and never set foot in the state.
Same for being a venture capital organization.

All legal.

New Mexico law specifically says that no group or class shall be granted any special privileges. Then it turns right around and creates a special class called REALTORS, and grants them special privileges by license.

Your state laws, as well as federal laws, are all BS. They are in place to give you something to hang a hope on. Ohhhh the law says THIS, therefore I can do THAT. Bzzzzzzzz. Wrong.

All states, as well as federal are not governed by law. In every case it's a matter of "Public Policy". Try to get a definition of public policy from somebody who cares.
.....deleted a rant here...:D

Anyway, my point is that if you were offering this special deal based on your residency in Nevada, I'd say no thanks. You may mean well, but I would suspect a scam.

Boz,

You are 100% correct about public policy. Unfortunately 99.9% of Americans don't have a clue. I'm no longer into trying to explain it to anybody as it is far too easy to say what I said in my post. People understand that. Don't really give a hoot and holler what anyone thinks cuz I just pull out the statute and show it to them in black and white. Shuts everybody up.

As for you making loans, well, could be and could not be. That would depend on what a black robed terrorist would say if you were sued in this State. Sorry to burst any bubbles but the sheeple run straight to the government courts for redress and guess who they drag along.

Regardless, have a great day and remember if they gave people a license for murder it too would be legal. Got to love those politicians...

I remember them telling my friends that as they surrounded their house and invaded. If you think you can have an opinion of the political nature that is gaining steam and a host of converts along the way, well sir, think again. This is America.

Thank you Phil,

Don is great for tossing out ideas but never too willing to share resources. In a perfect world, we all would be sharing but hey, nothing's perfect...

Its like your 15 minutes of fame, oh and ahh, but bottom line, YOU have to find your own way. Makes it kind of hard, sharing and all. Just sayin'...

Eva, semi-reluctant to share, just because...
