Terrible Predicament
 

Our site currently recieves about 4000 unique visitors
per month and about 20000 page views.

We are using Doubleclick to sell ads on our site.
They are paying us $1.25 per 1000 page views on average.

The problem is my boss wants us to get $7.50 CPM
and have the ad agency SIGN to that figure.

I found ad agencies that give very high CPM's.

The problem is we need to have 1-2 million impressions
per month. My boss has instructed me to lie about our numbers.

Can these agencies find out that we are lying??

Is there any agency that will pay a high rate?

We are an online shopping portal so we are not very targetted.

For ethical and stress reason, I am about to leave my job
over this issue.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Yes, since they could ask for evidence of your web site statistics.... When you start to stall, they'll probably know something is fishy....

I personally don't think it is worth cheating others to try to become a success. I believe most cheaters are discovered in the end. Once that happens, their credibility is destroyed....

Looking for a never-ending stream of "suckers" seems like a very bad way to do business. It won't work in the long-term....

It's MUCH better to try to deliver quality and have happy customers who then become fans.... At least, that's the ideal we ought to all strive for. :)

Hi Alex,

Here's a second thought....

Even if the ad agencies were fooled by fake stats files, they'd probably figure it out in the end since (if they're any good) they'll be analyzing the click-through rates.... And they'll wonder when click-through rates from your site are way below click-through rates from other sites, which are *supposed* to have similar page-views....

So, the strategy cannot work in the long-term, and the ad agencies who are "fooled" at first will eventually probably find out, and will stay away for the future too....

Those are my thoughts anyhow!
