Any advice on promotional products business

I am thinking of adding promotional products to my product line. Does anyone have any experience they can share about how profitable this business really is?

Re: Any advice on promotional products business

Bret,

Glad you asked. I've sold promotional products in the past. The business is there but you have to hustle. The money isn't in selling the products themselves but in being a promotional consultant and building an organization.

If you focus on just selling the products, like many distributors do, your margins will be low due in part to Internet companies and companies from China.

If you want some solid training I would recommend David Blaise's material over at Top Secrets Of Promotional Products Sales

I own 3 of David's training materials.
  1. Getting Started
  2. Customer Acquisition
  3. Sales Person's System

David does have other material but when I was starting off I was with Kaeser & Blair but their training material was lacking and that lack of training cost me dearly financially.

Then I was introduced to David Blaise and Top Secrets. David introduces you to becoming a promotional adviser instead of just a promotional products distributor.

Since my introduction to that industry, the Internet is what leveled the playing field for those who just went around selling ad specialties. Now anyone can go online and order 250 pens without ever seeing a sales rep.

And it doesn't stop there. There are many promotional products manufacturers that are here one day and gone the next or bought out by larger companies.

To get a good feel of what the whole industry is like head over to ASIcentral

This page allows you to subscribe to the different industry online magazines for FREE and you get daily emails with solid content. I would highly recommend that you and anyone else interested in promotional products get a feel for what's going on in the industry before you make the plunge like I did. If what I knew then, what I know now I would have done it all differently.

Finally I have friend Scott Rauber that put out an ebook that focuses on putting up 1 product websites. The Javalina Pen is just one of his websites.

If you want to get his system it is found here Niche Search Selling

Hope this helps.
