Chatteling

Just checking in to let the group know how Chatteling has helped make up the income loss in our family.

I'm going off Gordon's 2006 edition. Not sure if it has been updated, but the basics in that information will never fade.

This Covid19 has thrown a screwball to many families. We lost a second income because my wife drives bus part time. When kids don't go to school, she doesn't drive.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, I found a free Canon Copier on Craigslist and ended up selling for $295.00. I found a Pottery Barn desk that a guy just wanted to "get rid of" and sold it for $275.00.

I've always wanted to Chattel, and have to a small degree, but now I was FORCED to find more income. Being in my late 50's, I have no desire to get another job, especially in the pathetic retail market. And not only that, with businesses shut down, there are not many jobs anyway.

I'm finding more items than I can handle (I have no truck or garage), but I'm finding enough to more than make up for the loss of income. Only difference now is that I wear a mask when dealing with sellers.

I have re-read that 2006 report! Of course I missed things the first time. I'm seeing even more items (certain Craigslist categories, I'm sure Gordon will know what I mean).

Just shouting out a thanks to the group and to Gordon's Chatteling report. I've also combined that knowledge with Flea Market Flipper, also mentioned by Gordon about two years ago.

Even during a pandemic, business is going well. Thanks again!

P.S. I'm not a paid endorser. Just a longtime Sowpub reader who is putting information to use and gaining tons of confidence.

Hi Rick,

I just want to thank you for sharing that...

The reason why is because many people now need hope!

It is a tough time for many people, with so many jobs lost and businesses closed or otherwise "hobbled" by the current pandemic...

But... there are opportunities out there.

Chatteling is one of them!

Best wishes,

Dien

Your check is in the mail.

Secrets just for you Rick, (and anyone else who reads this). If you guys have some time, here is a mission for you, but first, a link:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/63514/i.htm..._dmd=2&_sop=16

Probably should have shortened that, oh well. It is from today, a link to sold curtains and drapes. And these are not the high end stuff either.

But, you'll see many items for several hundred dollars, not a truck needed to transport the heaviest of them.

NOW, hop on Google, Bing, Facebook Marketplace too and do some searches for RETAILERS who sell Custom Made Window Treatments, Custom Made Drapes, Custom Made Curtains.

Get your notes out. Also, search for ALTERATIONS, some Dry Cleaners offer this service.

It was true 50 years ago, will be true in the future...most people do NOT hang sheets and blankets from their windows. Look at your window, and if your neighborhood is full of them that do, time to move friend.

One of the first things people who MOVE, who have just bought a house, condo or even rent an apartment is, order their own window coverings and in the upscale areas, almost always CUSTOM MADE DRAPES.

These are the areas you want to SHOP or Buy in. Buy over there, sell over here, right? Now if you guys can use a sewing machine and do alterations, you could really do well in this arena, because MOST guys won't do it.

Add a good steam cleaner into it, offer alterations, and sell the custom made drapes you picked up over there, to here...and you could generate an income I'm sure would be better than the driving gig. It may take a little time, but if you are willing to research...

USE YOUR MARKETING SKILLS...

Then I promise, you'll thank me later (and maybe even return your endorsement check uncashed, eh?).

Gordon

PS. Take a hard look at NURSERY curtains, kids grow fast (something you know)...and in upscale neighborhoods, you can pick these up, flip em fast, and maybe even specialize in them. Kurtains for Kids Rooms. And don't forget businesses too, you will find they invest a lot of money, especially new owners or new management or just new businesses.

ALSO, I like the flea market flippers family, my main criticism of them is, the whole storage thing. I know, circulation beats storage 360 days a year. Holding onto stuff, storing it or restoring it, eats away at time which could be used to make faster deals, but other than that, great info over there.

Hello Fórum,

I was thinking that inserting the keywords "vacate", "clear out", "empty" to search for products to buy at a Classified websites and on Facebook Marketplace can be a good idea.

The sellers are already sharing that they want to clear out the product, so maybe they are opened to negotiate.

Knowing the reasons why...helps a lot.`

It might be a good idea, let us know how it works out.

I like REASONS. Why they are selling, or why I AM BUYING. There are life events; moving, divorce, death, birth, job or career moves. These are reasons why people get MOTIVATED to sell.

And motivated sellers is what we chattelers look for. Plus a wad of CASH in the hand, will get you some great deals.

Also, I like to put a REASON why I am selling too. It gives potential buyers a reassurance, something that "makes sense", and with some products, where theft could be involved (like diamond rings or watches) it helps.

General rule of thumb, buy from MOTIVATED sellers, sell to those with the cash. But then, being a simpleton, I don't like to complicate things.

Re: Chatteling

Dien,

I should note, that not everything is free. Anyone can start with $50.00 (US dollars) and go from there. I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before.

But it IS possible to start from free.

Keep your eyes open. Search everyday. Negotiate. Walk away if not good enough. Keep people in mind when you are dealing with them. Half the time, if the deal is right, I pay full price because the person needs the money, and they have more stuff, or know someone else who does. Fair is fair. Knowing the comps helps in doing this.

Not only am I making a good income (just starting out), but I'm working with people, getting to know them, and having FUN.

I can only imagine what I can do full time. And with a garage! I'll soon rent a storage unit.

Also, just beginning, I am putting everything into a savings account, getting it up to $5000.00 before I even think about using if for any expenses. The more in the account, the more I can purchase inventory that will generate higher profits (IF purchased correctly).

So far, I'm at $1200.00, with six more items to sell. I'm getting there.

Best to everyone! Stay safe and well.

Chatteling biz-ops or using what you buy.

As people are looking for opportunities in chatteling, also make note of potential BUSINESSES, as I wrote about years ago. Things like lawn mowers, or good sewing machines, or even copiers, or lamination machines...

Or power washers, or log splitters, or mixers. There is so much PLR out there, you can add value if you offer a Biz-Op on your flip. Here is a deal...

https://cleveland.craigslist.org/ele...165219825.html

This copier needs work, and he would probably take less...but even at 125 and 500-1000 for repairs, it could be put to work in a garage printing business...and if one writes reports or creates POCKET PRO like booklets, it could produce an income stream.

I don't talk about it enough, but add value to your chattel, by offering it as an income potential.

Also, bookmark this site, here is a current thing near me:

Gordon
PS Since we're talking land too... here is some offerings at proxibid, one of many auction sites chattelers should have bookmarked.
