Real Estate Sign Installation Business
 
Does anyone know anything about the real estate sign installation business? I just found out that the main company that does it where I live went out of business. I’m also seeing ads on craigslist from real estate co. trying to find someone who will install the signs for them, they don’t know where to turn. I’ve searched for info on the business model and can’t really find much. I do know they install the sign post and remove them for around $40, but who provides the sign.

I’m trying to find a how to book. Anyone know of any info?

Hey Jason....a few yrs ago I used the sign shown below....in which RE Agents could place their "Listing Sheets".

There are other types of sign holders (Wood and Metal) BUT....I wanted to use these "Metal" things for 2 reasons;

1) They cost me $20 in lots of 10 (still do)
2) They held MY "Special Listing Sheets"

What are my "Special Listing Sheets"?

These are sheets of 60lb Vellum Bristol (I liked the "feel" of these, stiff but not too much).....with MY....FULL Color Ads of businesses wanting to be seen by "People Looking for Homes"!....on one side and Blank on the other.

I provided these for FREE to the RE Brokerage for the FREE use of the Agents....for them to take some and PRINT THEIR LISTING and run them thru their personal Inkjet printers (which they ALL have at their desks)

So....when they agents printed up 20 or 30 (they got from the stack I provided)....they could fill my Sign Holders.....making them available to "People Looking for Houses"!

The RE Agents gave me their choices of;
Pest Control Co, Carpet Cleaner, Painter, Interior Decorator, Landscaper, Plumber, Electrician, Roofer....etc....ANY business OR profession (I even had ads for Accountants, Doctors, Dentists, Chiropractors etc)


So....when I phoned these potential advertisers and told them they could have THEIR AD....on the Back of Listing Sheets....that would be SEEN and LOOKED AT by people hunting for houses.....they joined GLADLY....and...PAID ME A HANDSOME FEE!

Along with the Metal Signs....I used Wood Signs and attached a Metal Listing Sheet Box to it (see photo)

And....when I saw how well this program was going....I made up a Free-Standing Display I placed in Hotel Lobbies. This was a wooden free standing sign with a 2ft by 3ft frame (with clear plexiglass front) attached at the top.

In the Frame was 8 Listing sheets....4 across and 2 down for which Agents or RE Offices PAID ME A NICE HEFTY FEE....every 3 months (see photo)

I got my metal signs from here....http://www.realtysignxpress.com/

I got my Wood Signs from a local Cabinet Shop.

So....as far as "What To Charge"....I'd go in and ask the owner of mgr of a few RE Offices. With MY "Listing Sheet Program"....I provided the Metal Signs and Boxes at no charge.

So....looks like the RE Market is starting to come back a little. And...two things are FOR SURE;
1) People are STILL Looking to Buy Houses....in YOUR Area
2) Businesses, Professionals AND Medicos WILL GLADLY PAY to be seen by "House-Hunters"!

PS....one other way to make some GOOD MONEY....dealing with Real Estate Signs....is to provide a "Hanger Sign" below the regular "wood sign". On this "Hanger" (I can't find my photos) is placed the URL of the WebPage with the info about the property. ex: www.1323Main.com or....
...www.356SEJackson.com! YOU buy the domain (cheap domains.com)... make the Hanger and charge the Agent a fee for 3 mos.

Years ago he Shared some Excellent very related info on the Real Estate Sign Installation Business through a Link story with his email customer List that he Just might remember and be willing to Bring back to Life with a Fresh new "Twist" for 2011!

I'll dig around just in case Skip's forgotten About that Golden Nugget he Shared about Making a Fortune in the Real Estate Sign Installation Business just like the Good ol' Days of the Booming industry...

On it's way Back in the very Near Future along with misc. Expandable Real Estate revenue producers & Required services for 2011 and beyond... ;)

This Co makes Real Estate "Post" signs ....standing 60" above ground and 36" out....where you pound in a long Stake and slip the sign down over it so there's no need for Digging a Hole. Their fee....$59.95 for the post and they ALSO make the actual signs to your specs.

Also....this company covers NINE States. Uses EIGHT FOOT high by 4ft out, wood signs. They charge $38 for install and $38 for Removal. HUGE operation.

Heck...even if you charge $25 for install and $25 for removal....with 100 signs going and coming....it could be quite lucrative.

Their "Excel" Post (No Holes To Dig) for $53.50....looks pretty good PLUS, they have other types of signs.

Some agents like to put 5 or 6 signs AROUND the neighborhood.

Hi Phil,

Thank you for the kind words.

I dug up that article from the dead files and updated the links. Some of the links were dead so I got them to as close as possible to the orginial.

One link that is dead is a SowPub link from the OLD forum. Maybe Dien can dig up that thread.

You can make much more profit with renting or leasing the signs then you can by selling them outright or by having the Realtor supply them.

You do not have to do the work yourself, but hire trade school students, to make the signs. Then all you have to do is move them from site to site. In fact you could give up half your profit and hire students to install and take down the signs. When you have a good list of clients this is the way to go.

Jason, what happens if the sign gets stolen, will you hold the agent responsible for it?
will they have to sign an agreement holding them responsible?

How about adding a "Service" to the existing Signs!
 
The "Sign-Service" and "Listing Lights" and "Listing Locks" are good ideas HOWEVER...."installing and moving signs" is not my idea of "Extra Income". Someone must Physically do the work. And some areas need permits for lights on Signs and...."Locks" are "Ok" but....No Pizzaz!...and don't really put money into Agents pockets!

What if you could offer a "Unique Service" to ALL the RE Agents, Offices and even local Sign Companies?

A "Service" that ONLY YOU could provide....and....a "Service" that would pay YOU X$ A WEEK (for 13 weeks).....for EACH LISTING you provided your special "Service" for ...and you could collect this cash WITHOUT LEAVING YOUR PC!

Note: Real Estate Agents are notoriously "cheap"...mainly because they don't make money Until and Unless their properties Sell! They have to run ads promoting their listings. Signs alone won't hack it. So....they are pretty cautious about any "extra services" they spend money on BEFORE the property sells!

However....what I'm about to tell you CAN....help SELL properties and...HELP Put MONEY INTO THE AGENTS POCKETS FASTER!

One of the TOP RE Agents in my area STILL uses an "Old-Fashioned" Marketing System. (It's amazing why other RE Agents DON'T get why she is the TOP agent) She's using an "Old-Fashioned" VOICE MAIL set up where each of her Listings is on a "Recorded Message".

She makes a 2 minute Recording for each of her Listings. These Recordings give a description of the property, features of the property and area and, the Price and Her Name and Phone.

So....a few months ago, I was trimming the hedge in front of my home and happened to notice the House Hunters stopping and looking at my neighbors house For Sale across the street.

They'd stop the car....look at the For Sale Sign....dial the Number of the Recorded Message. Some would get out of their car and get a Listing Sheet in the box on the Post.

Then I got one of my "Hot Flashes";
I started counting how many Lookers were using their Cells. Amazingly, almost EVERY Looker whipped out their cell phone and dialed the Recording.

Now...."Audio" info is "ok" BUT....wouldn't "Audio" and "VISUAL" info be better? ....in the form of a Website ON THEIR CELL PHONES?

So.... I met with one of my RE Agent buddies....told him what I had in mind...for HIM to...."GET MORE LISTINGS BY OFFERING SOMETHING OTHER AGENTS WEREN'T OFFERING!" (Agents make money JUST BY GETTING LISTINGS)

I helped him set up a "Mobile Info Service"...where House Hunters could get ALL the info about a property....ON THEIR CELL PHONES!

He also provided the "Hanger" (a board hanging below the main sign with the "Mobile Site" address).....for each Participating Agent....who would mount the "Hanger" when the sign was installed.

He charges for each "Hanger" and a SetUp Fee for each Listing ....and a Monthly Fee for the Service.

My buddy is now making a Nice Chunk-O-Change,,,each and every month, from his fellow RE Agents.

Whala! Maybe I should do a WSO on this.

Anyway....YOU heard it HERE....FIRST!
