A NEW day begins at the farm, and we're excited as pigs at slop time...

Dien and I have had a lot of discussion lately. I can't speak for him, but for myself...

"I've seen the light".

An epihany? Perhaps.

I think it is more of Synergy. We've put our heads together with each other and also with other people. It could be Coincinetics...coincidences that seem to happen for a reason...or just plain old coincidence...so what? What matters is we BOTH have had a light bulb turned on.

Dien met a guy in Melbourne who just happened to be there at the right time and in a two hour power lunch revealed the most AMAZING money making strategy on the planet.

Meanwhile, back on the farm, yours truly, the Original Dumb Ol Dirt Farmer, had a whack up side my head too.

And it was about an AMAZINGLY similar money making opportunity that dove tails nicely with Dien's discovery.

The first result of these coincidences is an immediate expansion of SowPub forums. Some may become very popular, others may fall by the wayside. It doesn't really matter, although I suggest if you find a good thread in ANY of the forums, you copy and paste it into your SowPub folder you keep on your desktop for easy access.

We use the metaphor of a farm here. We plant Seeds Of Wisdom for Harvests Of Happiness.

The main acreage is for the general growing and nurturing of ideas. Our archives contain very unusual information about all kinds of wild subjects. We're Entrepreneurs with more than one dimension, we think of things other than just about the money.

NOW we have decided to do a little "share cropping" if you will. Around the perimeter of this farm we've designated small plots (new forums) of land for the development of specialized crops.

It is a concept that worked very nicely for me over a decade ago when I was just a piddling around in some other guy's farm and kept my little plot of small potatoes growing out on the back 40.

So it is a NEW day at SowPub.

We invite you to join in and watch it grow, we expect some great things to happen. It will if we get participation. YOU know somethng...and one of our new plots might be the perfect place for you to share what you know.

And if not, contact us, we are open to the idea of opening up NICHE specific forums, and will consider opening one up just for you based upon your experience and wisdom. Fair enough?

We think so.

Bring it on....

I think it is a delightful idea. One can concentrate their attention, focus, and act. Let me know, when things start to pop.

Warmly,

Millard

This is like EMMA all over again, almost...

Dien-Gordon,

Thanks.

This reminds me of EMMA - remember?

Know what we learned from that Project?

That "Multiple Forums" confuse people and in the end, only one gets the posts while the others Flounder. Posts that would have made the one forum even more valuable are lost in the nether-regions of the unread forums. Depriving the main forum of its value, and not adding value to the forum which hangs on by a very thin thread.

Multiple forums Can work. But I've not seen one work in the Business, Make Money, Entrepreneur field. I have seen them work in the Help field - software help, computer glitch help, etc.

Simon Latouche once said every message could have its own Forum. And thought Proves this to be the case. However, the thing is how long - what life span - such forums have.

With one forum, there is no Choice to be made about Which forum to post on. Add a choice and you add a reason not to post - too darn hard to figure where to post, so don't post.

For mine, I'd prefer to keep the wide variety of subjects on the one forum - even the OFFLINE stuff. But that's me. Other's may be different.

Oh, the name "International Farmer's Market" is misleading and not intrinsic. Makes it sound like a Market for Dirt Farmers and not whatever other Metaphors you choose. Maybe an Adjective between International and Farmer's could remove some confusion.

For what it's worth.

Michael,

Good points...

I guess some will be having, even more than your typical information overload Problems!

Although, if the forum layout is done well and the participation improves... Along with Google's goodness... :)

It could work as well as Allan Gardyne's...

And Grow SowPubs & company into a Much better business model and Profit center... Members included... ;)

Re:A cautionary tale

I just resigned from a site I had to pay for because the forum was such a mess with too many divisions and so on. Anytime one posted it was a toss up which forum would get a response, the subjects got mixed up, 90% of the time there were no appropriate responses to questions and so on. What a headache!

On top of that, there were multiple login problems because all the forums weren't recognizing the main login plus the login to the individual forums...ugh! Please, whatever you do, don't do multiple logins to the various forums. It will discourage posts tremendously.

I agree about the names...they're too twisted and unclear. Forget the cutesy stuff and go for clarity. Good luck, guys.

Dien & Gordon,

I agree with Michael & Sandi.

Multiple forums is just too distracting and confusing.

You could however try this: have sub-forums.

DigitalPoint has done this.
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/
You can see how some of the forum categories have sub-forums under it. (The first forum - "Google" has so many sub-forums under it.)

vBulletin allows that. Maybe this will help:

SOWPub new forums...

Thanks everyone for your feedback! I'll have to look into Ankesh's suggestion of "sub-forums"... Sounds really interesting...!

These are all a "test" so if they don't go well, we try not to be too "in love" with the ideas not to scrap 'em...

By the way, I changed the name from "Sowpub International Farmer's Market" to "Sowpub Harvests" (also a name Gordon came up with too)... I like that it's brief, and I think it has a nice "ring" to it... :)

If you have a "special deal" you want to offer Sowpubbers, post it there!

If you're wondering where these forums are, if you click on "SOWPub Small Business Forums" link near the top left of the page - or just go to www.sowpub.com/forum - you'll find 'em... :)
