How one guy made $12,000 with an ebook in 24 hours

This is an interesting blog post I came across... "How I made $12,000 with an ebook in 24 hours"

When you read it, you'll see it's an ebook about a technical topic. But don't focus on that. Focus on his pricing strategy.

He decided to use a 3-tiered pricing strategy... Just the ebook itself for $29. Or, the book + extra, for $59. Or, the ebook + even more extra, for $99.

(He writes $129 in one place in the article, which seems to be a mistake, it seems the real figure is actually $99, which is the figure in his graph - I did the calculation of his sums to check...)

Now, this is the graph to look at...

What this shows is that almost 50% of people bought the cheapest option, while 19% bought the middle option, and 31% bought the most expensive option... but what did this mean for the profits?

In fact, the cheapest option only brought in about 25% of the profits! That is, if he didn't offer the other two options, he could have made up to 75% LESS money!

The key here is... Tiered pricing works, to bring in a bigger income. If you don't sell this way, you're leaving money - possibly a LOT of money - on the table... And who doesn't want to make more money??

Here's the actual blog post -

PayPal Alternative

Hi Dien,

Thanks for the post. FYI I noticed from the comments on his site, that he used a Paypal Alternative I had never heard of before.

It's called Gumroad.com Looks like Eminem and Cold Play have used their services too.

They say they cover any Paypal fees if you choose that option to receive your payout.

Just wanted to point out that service to fellow Sowpubbers who may have been looking for an alternative.

Cheers

Duane

[b]Hey Duane....I ben usin PP ever since they started an No Problemo.

So.....apparently YOU are "concerned" about some of the things you've heard about PP....so....let me suggest something;

When I first began charging a Monthly Fee to my clients....there was NO PP or anything else.....SO.....what do "entroopeneer" people like me do?

We HUNT and RESEARCH until we FIND THE ANSWER!

My "answer" back b4 PP was a service called "Checks By Fax"....where my clients could FAX their Monthly Checks to me via the program.

Well....after awhile, as US Entroopeneers a want to do....we discover an Alternative. The Alternative back then was.....to buy software whereby we could "Write Checks"....Print them out AND.....sign and deposit them....just as if I had received the checks In-Person.

So.....out of 4 banks in my town....3 said they would NOT accept "facsimile" checks. So.....I opened an account at the bank that WOULD.

Thus.....updateto today; There's a software program you can get at Staples for $50 called....."CheckSoft"....where you can enter the info from each check you receive....either by Fax or Phone and.....enter it into the software and...it prints out the Check...so you can stamp "For DEPOSIT ONLY" on the back and deposit just as if you had received it in person.

And.....the program can "Automaitically" print out checks every month where all little ol' you has to do is Stamp on the back and hand it to your Teller.

Whala!

Hi Don,

"One is None and Two is One" Navy Seal Expression

Thanks. I was not "concerned" as you say, merely providing a SOLUTION and another TOOL, to a problem which has been previously mentioned either on this board or elsewhere over the years

Sidenote: I actually shared this Gumroad solution with one of my clients. (She has Paypal but felt this was "easier")

1. She immediately put it up on her website to sell her ebook
2. Made One Facebook post with a link pointing to her site
3. Made 12 sales of her ebook under 24 hours

**AND she was able to GET THE EMAIL addresses and build her list. (Amazon didn't allow her to see who the buyers were)**

End Sidentote

Thank YOU for sharing another TOOL from the OldSkool in the Checksoft Solution. BRILLIANT.

I always like the way your Mind thinks. Thanks for sharing!

Duane
