What's NEW here at Sowpub....

Just a quick run down on what's NEW!

I've been a little bit under the weather lately, but I've now recovered, and rarin' to go!

If you don't know of it yet, Michael Ross has a new product out which we are happy to showcase here.... It's a tool, to make your writing a breeze.

Well, it won't do the writing for you (I'm still waiting on that device - maybe that can be Dean Kamen's next invention!) - but it sure helps!

What do you do if you're fresh out of ideas in your writing?

One solution is to turn to Writer's Friend's list of headlines, cliches, quotes, and miscellaneous items. Just reading through these is often enough to help stimulate something new to say. You can also add your own favorite items too. (I've started to add one-liner jokes to the "misc." section too so I can use them to spice up my writings. :) )

A word about cliches. If you mentioned you're going to use a cliche to your old high school English teacher, she would probably have thrown up her arms in exasperation!

One thing they taught ME in high school was not to use cliches. But if you are writing persuasively, the goal is to move someone and COMMUNICATE. The great thing about cliches is that everyone knows instantly what you're talking about.

So if you're writing to persuade, then by all means use cliches.... But please don't tell any English teachers, for their sake! :)

Find out more about Writer's Friend at http://www.sowpub.com/writersfriend.html . It's a time-saving writing and product-development tool!

Secondly - the 'Seedzine' starts in a week! This will feature Gordon Alexander's writings - subscribe now at http://www.sowpub.com/seedzine.htm

More more more coming in the following weeks.... So stay tuned. :)

I love what's "old" too.....

Namely,

Your "Blast from the Past" section of the Hotsheet! As a relative newbie to this board (I've only been lurking for a few months now), I really appreciate reading these older "treasures" from Sowpub's archives.

Thanks for sharing these!!

p.s. Would you believe I'm being interviewed by the webmaster from homebasedwork.com for the "secrets of my success" for their newsletter? Sort of the same idea that Martin Avis has been doing. Wow. I told them honestly that I haven't been too successful yet (YET!!!!) but they're interviewing me anyhow....... I don't know how inspirational I'm going to be, but we'll (gulp) see!

Anya.

Thanks Anya, I'm glad you like them!

That's one of my favorite sections too.... We divide the work up on the Entrepreneur's Hotsheet, and Michael selects the "Blast From The Past" posts, so I also wonder what he's going to come up with!

Even if you've been around here a while, I think it's a pleasure to re-read some of those old gems.... :)

The feedback we've received on the Entrepreneur's Hotsheet has been phenomenal! Remember - if you find it valuable, most likely others you know will find it valuable too - please DO pass them around if you like an issue....

(Find out more about the Entrepreneur's Hotsheet at http://www.sowpub.com/entrhotsheet.shtml - it's free.)

Wow Anya, that's GREAT news!!!!

Congratulations - it's FANTASTIC publicity for you, and an interview like that just adds to your credibility as well, when you can point to how you've been interviewed and had it published online.

When it's online, please let us know, okay? I'd LOVE to read it! :)

Thanks Dien, and.....

I'm working on my responses right now to the interview questions, and I can't help but want to mention sowpub as one of my sources of inspiration - because it's true. I've learned so much on this forum, about business ideas, and ethical marketing, etc. etc. etc. as well as people like Gordon mentoring me through my first "product development".....

Is it okay if I mention this forum in the interview?

Thanks,

Anya.

Hi Anya,

Of course - I'd love it if you mentioned Sowpub!

I think it's super that you have found inspiration here. :)

Thanks Anya. :)

Congratulations!

Hi Anya,

I'm jealous that I didn't ask you first, but delighted that you are about to get your name in lights!

If I may offer you a small tip, it is to be as full in your answers to their questions as you possibly can. Write a novel. It is the 'interviewer's' job to sub-edit your glowing, fullsome prose into an article length piece.

Of course, if, like Gordon Alexander was, you are just so darned interesting, they will find it hard to cut you down to size!

I am certainly looking forward to reading your story.

Best wishes,

Martin.

Success Stories #7: Interview with Gordon Alexander

Anya February 28, 2002 10:39 PM

Re: Congratulations!

Martin -

Thanks - and - LOL!!! Write a novel? I hope I have enough to say for a worthy paragraph!!! I'm certainly no Gordon Alexander, who has a lifetime of successful experiences to write about. To tell you the truth, I'm a bit perplexed as to why they've chosen me to write about! Anyway, to take your advice, I'm answering their questions as thoroughly as I can, so hopefully there's something there of use to them.

I read your interview with Gordon, and I'm jealous that I don't have as many intellegent things to say as he did! But, if people want to read about a little Canadian housewife with 3 kids, a chronic illness and no money (yet!) and her adventures with learning how to earn money at home with nothing but a computer and her own experiences, then that's what they are going to get. I hope it inspires somebody to take action and live a better life than they are now.

Thanks for your input and encouragement!

Anya.

Michael Ross March 2, 2002 06:21 AM

Only if...

Steve:

While Writer's Friend was NOT tested on a Mac, it may be able to be used on a Mac IF you have "Virtual PC" with Windows installed.
