Looking for Business Directory

Looking for Business Directory

I’m trying to find business directory software to list local businesses. I’ve found some turnkey ones but their not very good. I would like to find one where businesses can list their selves. Any help?

Thank You,
Jason Hatchett

Hi Jason,

If you can't find anything that suits you, it might be worthwhile to get some software custom made. You might be able to get a script written for $500 to $1,000 (with an overseas programmer) - of course depending on the complexity of what it is you want, precisely...

Another advantage is that, if you wanted to, you could then also sell the software to others as well...

Re: Looking for Business Directory

Hi Jason,

I've been looking at directory scripts for years and there are a few good options available depending on just what you want to do with it.

First, take a look at http://www.phpmydirectory.com/ and http://phpyellow.com/

They've both been around a quite a few years and they make it rather easy to setup a standalone business directory.

If you're not crazy about those, do a search at http://www.hotscripts.com/ for a php or asp classified program script and you should find a few other options geared just for a business directory or one that's easily modified to make a directory with.

You could also use a link directory like wsnlinks or eSyndicat for a business directory too. Google them and you'll find more info about 'em.

Lastly - if you want to manage articles or other content in addition to the business directory, I'd highly recommend Article Live from http://www.interspire.com

I just bought their article management (cms) script this month for a local community/directory type site I'm working on and it's a great system that does just about everything I need. With the ability to create unlimited categories and sub-categories it's well suited to being used for a directory and I'm really quite impressed and pleased with it.

HTH,

Steve

Re: Has Anyone Heard Of www.CityAmerica.com

I found this business directory called http://www.cityamerica.com
It’s all set up and ready to go. You just sell the ads and listings to local
businesses. They host it for about $50 a month. Check it out and give me your opinion.

How would you get mass local traffic to it?

Thank You,
Jason Hatchett

Hi Jason,

Depending on the Features and the concept you're thinking of putting together...

You may want to checkout the following Directory Scripts...

Some Excellent Free Software I've posted about in other threads with added Pay for Features if required...

http://www.onlinemarketingtoday.com/software/
http://www.boonex.com/products/barracuda/
http://www.freephpdirectoryscript.com/

Regarding CityAmerica...

It's probably Best to review just how many are Actually running and Marketing the Portal as a Real business... :)

And contact and interview some to get a True picture...

As far as getting mass Local Traffic...

Just like with Any other business... Marketing, marketing and more Marketing...

Keep in mind, there are Lots of poor quality Local Portals...

But Googling and researching Local brings up some Great Directory models... ;)

Re: Looking for Business Directory

Jason,

The sites are nice looking, but as a business owner I'd want to know how the site will be found --- what type of marketing is planned for the city website itself so that my business will get exposure?

The URL's for most of the CityAmerica sites that I went through are not types that people would be searching for.

Just some valid concerns to think about.

Lawrence
