What do you think about premonition?

So I am reading "Lincoln the Unknown" by Dale Carnegie (an excellent excellent book if you can get your hands on it.)

One anecdote from the book is this: Mary Todd used to say to everyone that she is going to marry someone who would become the president of USA. This was before she met Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln (both went out with her and in the future became presidential candidates). Everyone laughed at her - but she was confident that she will one day live at the white house.

Even after she married Abe Lincoln - Lincoln kept on failing at various elections. But still, she was confident that one day he would win the presidency.

Was this premonition? (It can also be argued that it was Mary who drove Abe Lincoln to become the president. So a 2nd anecdote from the book...)

2nd anecdote: one day Lincoln sees his reflection in a mirror. But the reflection is in such a way that he sees he has 2 faces. And 1 of the face is a bit ragged.

On hearing of this - Mary Todd Lincoln says that this means Lincoln will become president twice - but won't live through his 2nd term.

So what do you think of these anecdotes?
Do you believe in premonition?
Or do you think its all hocus pocus?

Ankesh,

This is only my experience, but, those people who have EXPERIENCED any out of the ordinary, or psychic or unexplained events are open minded to the possibilities. Those who haven't are skeptics.

I had my first Out of Body Experience when I was 9. Have had many since then. Many PREMONITIONS. None of a life saving nature.

Also, much lucid dreaming and "nightmares", which are for some, another way of EXTRA sensory communication.

Often, there is some interpretation needed for these "psychic" events and again, experience is the best guide.

I've recently had a recurring dream. An EARTHQUAKE in S. Ca over 6.5 closer to 7.2 in S. CALIF between Aug 17 and Aug 27 of this year.

The recurring dream has a "song" which keeps playing...Simon and Garfunkle's Me and Julio and the part which wakes me up is

Goodbye Rosie Queen of Corona...

Also, the city of Manhattan keeps coming up, I take this to be the City of Manhattan Beach in S. CA. These points are along the Riverside to Artesia Freeways.

Probably doesn't mean a thing, but, I'm staying out of S. CA during these times and especially away from Corona. AND Rosie.

Premonition? Hope not. Bad dreams from anchovy pizza? More likely.

However, I do believe in unexplained psychic phenomenon like premonition, astral projection and even pyschokinesis (it is what makes me a world class putter on the greens).

I hadn't even known they planned a trip.

As for straight premonitions, I was getting ready for work and I heard a voice telling me to hurry. I wasn't late. It repeated over and over. I just got through a major intersection when I saw a cattle hauling truck lay over on it's side right where I had just been in the rear view mirror.

Have had tons of experiences of various kinds. Yep, I'm a believer...have to be.

Hi Sandi,

Wow, your post gave me goosebumps!

I also believe in these things too, though I haven't had any experiences anywhere near as dramatic as yours.

I question whether these experiences can be "controlled" or conjured up at will, though, as some "professional psychics" claim. I tend towards the view that they may not be in our control, and that instead there may sometimes be some "divine guidance" going on...

Just my personal view. Thank you for sharing...

Best wishes (or should that be "pleasant dreams"? :) )

Re: What do you think about premonition?

I've had more than my share of premonitory experiences, including one memorable one when I was a wee lad of 19.

I was driving down a road in my hometown, a road I had driven down a million times before. I was in the car alone, had no traffic light in front of me, no stop sign or any other reason to stop driving down the road (admittedly at a bit more than the posted speed limit and with my stereo blaring 300 watts of Boston...I was a 19 year old boy with a Mustang, what would you expect? )

Just as I was approaching an intersection (where I had right-of-way, but the side-road had a stop sign), I heard, as clear as day, a voice yell "STOP NOW!" It was clear, loud, sudden and unexpected enough that, by reflex, I locked my brakes...

...just as a truck ran the stop sign on the side road (I found out later that its brakes had gone out) and smashed into the building across the street, passing right through the spot where I would have been had I not slammed on brakes.

Short answer: yes, I wholeheartedly believe in premonitions...since I'm alive to sit here and type this, i have to.

NOW, I'm GOING to Southern California...

My S. Cal friends can go home now.

Still having the "dream" only now I see football. IF they get through OCTOBER without an EarthQuake of significance, I'm going to visit there in Novemeber.

But a Warning. Last Summer in Erie, it was "our worst summer ever"

Here in FL, Headlines: "Worst Winter Ever." Followed by "hottest Summer ever."

So, maybe, it's ME the boogeyman weather maker is following around.

Anyhow, if we don't get either an Earthquare or a Hurricane in OCTOBER, I'm retiring from the "premonition" game permanently.

Gordon

PS. The Twitter twits and the Facebook idiots don't count.

Premonitions, ESP and Acting on FEELINGS to Make Extra Munny

Thanks Ankesh,

I Believe we can Benefit from Premonitions and ESP type insights or feelings.

I read a book Years ago about Programming Your Dreams.

You Write a Note about what you want to Think About in your Dreams. Put it
on Your Pillow. And read it just before you go to sleep.

Well.

I didn't do that two nights ago.

But I Was Swapping Stories With Ben Gay III - (Who hired Napoleon Hill for a
year as a consultant) Right Before Bed!

--------------------------------
"As you know, another of my early mentors (William Penn "Bill" Patrick) hired Napoleon Hill to work with me as my personal consultant for my birthday on August 22, 1968. As a 26 year old, "wet behind the ears" salesman, it was literally a mind-bending event!

All the best!

AND That Got Me Thinking BEFORE SLEEP about his sales advice in "The Closers II" book.

"Get in such Deep Rapport with your prospect that you are not only on his side of the table during the sale but he regards you as one of the family. Asks your Opinion of what he should buy and how much he should pay."

When I woke up I was thinking about HOT PINK Chain Maile Ties.

Ok.

We know the Subconscious is OUT of CONTROL - So you roll with it!

Then -

When I turned my computer on I got this Email -

All the best and good night from Augsburg, Germany
Sigmund

P.S. Do you know where to get chain mail ties?
------------------------

OK.

What do you call THAT?

A Sleepy Premonition?

ESP in REM Sleep States?

So...

I Wrote a Sales letter and sold Sigmund a HOT PINK Chain Maile Tie!

I have a hunch that I'll be in the dog house if I don't get something for my wife for our anniversary. This is unique but her favorite color is blue. Do you have these ties in blue?

How a Client Makes an EXTRA 150K A Yr w/his Chain Maile Tie

Thanks Andrew,

Yes, Blue anodized, saw cut Chain Maile links are in stock.

I checked with the Tie Maker in Alaska.

But My Tests with a Gary Halbert PINK Munny Making idea -- suggest you
might order a PINK Tie for yourself and a Blue or Purple Tie for your wife.

Here's why...

When The Fella in Germany ASKED about it - I wrote him a Letter with all
the details...

Here's the Story behind this 1 - of-a-Kind Tie...

It looks exactly like a silk tie - knot and all - is as light as a silk tie
or almost - cuz it's aluminum.

I own several Colors of the Chain Maile TIE because I've squandered 100's of dollars on Silk ties that get food stains. And it ticked me off.

Thanks,
Glenn

Re: What do you think about premonition?

Hi everyone!

Someone told me that our brain is like a CPU. Whatever you feel and think the body will respond to it. Success secrets for instance, just be positive and think that you'll be able to achieve your dreams. This will happen in no time because your brain is telling you to accomplish your goal. You will then work hard, think of any possible ways in order to get what you want in life. There goes a saying, whatever your mind can conceive, believe it can achieve.:)
