Streamlined Sales Tax

Quote:

For over five years, states have been working together to develop "a sales and use tax system that radically simplifies sales and use taxes" as noted in the mission statement of the Streamlined Sales Tax Project Organized in March 2000, the Streamlined Sales Tax Project (SSTP) objective is to simplify and modernize sales and use tax collection and administration in the United States.

I'm biting down hard on my tongue...:p

Streamlined Sales Tax Project?

Is that "streamlined" to make it easier to ram it down our throats? (or elsewhere?)

Elsewhere, would be my guess.

I did a bunch of research on state laws a couple of computers ago...most of it lost now. What I found is that there is a commission or group, of a name I can't recall, that designs laws for adoption by all the states.

At the time I was studying the predatory lending laws that were eventually adopted by all the states. In NM it was announced that Manny Aragon was the author of the bill, and what a great guy he was for coming up with this wonderful bill to protect all the people.

Checking deep, I found that the bill came from this national commission, and each state made it's own minor changes and got introduced under whoever from each state.

In making my next loan I made sure to comply with every provision of the new law, just in case you know. Surprise, surprise, by following the letter of the wonderful new law I was able to make almost twice as much money in making the loan! Manny got his praise, what a great guy, and all the lenders made more money, and the people getting loans got screwed worse than before. But they loved it because Manny was protecting them. Gag.

It does come around though. Manny Aragon got caught with both hands in the till and is now on his way to prison. They even chiseled his name off of a new building in Santa Fe.

My tongue feels better now :)
