How a Client Made 9K with 10 Snail Mail Letters

Hi,

Thanks for the networking.

Thought I'd share this 30% Response sales letter.

My client is a doctor and a consultant. He mailed out 10 letters to local business owners. 3 Called and paid him 3 grand each.

30% response.

And his letter?

3 or 4 sentences!

I thought it unusual enough to share here with the group.

TESTIMONIAL -

After reading your Ugly Copywriting BOOK, I wrote the following direct mail. I sent it to only 10 people and got 3 clients.

RESTRICTED NEWS

I help people spend half the time, making four times the money; and my fee is $3000.00.

I am limiting this offer to the first 3 people who call, because I want to protect the system.

That means that you know that it's very important to call me now for an appointment.

Call Dr. Kay Weaver(Ed.D., Ph.D.)

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for sharing this successful letter.

I think the "limited offer" is powerful. Only 3 people! Of course, those who received the letter don't know he only sent it to 10 people... They probably imagine they are one of dozens or hundreds (making it seem even more limited than it actually was). Of course, if he didn't get his 3 responses, he could have mailed it out to more (presumably).

I also like the "cadence" of "spend half the time, making 4 times the money, and my fee is $3000.00." It has a nice "rhythm" to it... and it uses the power of "three"...

I first learned about "the power of three" from Gordon Jay Alexander, and he pointed out how it often appears in the movie "Elmer Gantry" (with Burt Lancaster)...

Here's a part of the movie script, where you can see it in action...

(This is a speech by Elmer Gantry... Say it out loud to get the full effect...!)

Quote:

This newspaper... this newspaper says everybody's against me.

The mildewed Methodists, Episcopalians, and Baptists are against me.

Even the ossified, petrified, horizontal, perpendicular Presbyterians are against me!

But this newspaper lies!

Some of the preachers might be against me.

Unitarianism, Russellism, Spiritualism - they hate me!

And what hates me most of all is Harvardism, Yaleism, and Princetonism!

But you're some of God's best people.

And you don't hate me, do you?

You can find "the power of three" used in many powerful speeches, and elsewhere too...

"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"

"Trust, Justice, and the American Way" (as Superman said!)

"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" (US Declaration of Independence)

"Turn on, tune in, drop out" (as Timothy Leary once recommended)

"I said shake, rattle, and roll" (as Bill Haley once sang!)

Thanks for reading...

Till next time... adios, au revoir, and auf wiedersehen! :)

Best wishes, :)

Joe Sugarman Told Me He Gets Best Results in 3-Act Plays

Hi Dien,

Thanks.

On the phone with Joe in Hawaii one day he mentioned that his best producing sales offers - print and video...

All followed the 3 act play format.

Joe figured if it worked for the Ancient Greek playwrites it might work well for him too.

And it did.

I've used the idea myself for the past ten or 12 years. And it does help a great deal.

Act I - Grabber Proof

Act II - Credentials

Act III - Benefits and the offer

Something very balanced about it.

By the way...

I've read lots and lots of copywriting books and manuals. NEVER saw this gambit in any of them.

So I guess it's some kind of insider secret.

Thanks,
Glenn
