New DST Software for PC Users..(Okayed by Dien)

Hi Folks,

After weeks of work, Christopher Zak and I have put the finishing touch on a piece of software for non-XP Microsoft OS users.

DST-Update(c) will reset your PC clock so you'll be in sync with the new DST that goes into effect March, 2007 and November, 2007. Over 60-million computers that use an OS below XP-Pro Service Pack 2 & 3 are affected.

The retail price on the software is $24.95, but SOWPUB members can grab a copy for just $11. (And, your thoughts on the product would be appreciated too.)

Please use this special link to download the software. DST-Update(c)

Thanks.

Pete

Re: Software for Windows 95 to XP Service Pack 1 Users..(Okayed by Dien)

Hi Pete,

Thanks!
(Thanks Dien, too!)

(and to All sowpubbers)

DST-Update is for Your PC If You have:
************************************
  • Windows 95,
  • Windows 98,
  • Win ME,
  • Win NT,
  • Win XP (Pro and Home) No Service Pack, and
  • Win XP (Pro and Home) Service Pack 1
************************************

Microsoft will not support anything Previous to XP Service Pack 2 as the service / support will be out of date.
(That is, without having to PAY Their Support Charges.)

This is, of course, is In regards to the Daylight Saving Time changes that will Now FORCE You to change Your PC Clocks 4 times a year instead of the PC doing it autimatically the way that it's SUPPOSED to be.

Now, You will be able to just Set it and Forget it.
Just download the file, double click it, Run the program,
and voi-la!

Thanks.

Christopher

I'm Missing Something...

Pete & Christopher,

Thanks for creating something.

So my Win95 used to do this. My Win98SE does this - if I allow it, which I don't because my backward state doesn't have Daylight Savings (the Idiotic reasons would blow your mind - see some below).

What am I missing? Why do you change times 4 times a year? Uh? Please explain.

If I know how to change the clock... I can turn Off the Auto-Update and just do it manually, right? (I know, I know, lazy people.)

Solutions to problems are Good money makers. Though I am reminded of Gary H's thoughs on this... sell solutions to problems people are Already concerned/worried about.

Are people Actually worried about this? Will they be? Is there a Big enough market of Lazy people, or people who do not Know how to change their own clock? When does Daylight Saving normally start and begin anyway? What's with 2012?

Michael Ross - from a land/state where apparently daylight saving causes cows to stop milking, chickens to stop laying, cats to get depressed, curtains to fade and an increase in skin cancer, all because of an Extra Hour of sun. Go figure.

Michael,

Well, you're pretty much on it.. It's built for 1) lazy people, 2) forgetful people.

In my case, I run some software that is based upon (among other things,) the time. So, DST-Update keeps me from having to remember to do all of the changing.

Here are the Answers...

Hi Michael,

Thanks for ASKing.

Below Assumes that Your area follows Daylight Saving Time.
(of which, You already stated that You don't.)

With the NEW Daylight Saving Time changes for 2007,
Unless the settings are changed within the PC,
in March, You will have to manually set the clock to
one hour ahead.

Since the PC will have already be an hour ahead,
Your PC is currently set to change in April, hence,
You will have to change it back one hour when
April's "One Hour Ahead" change is executed on Your PC.
(That's automatic.)

(That's 2 changes.)

Come October, Your PC is set to go back 1 hour automatically.
Now, You'll have to set it Ahead one hour to keep Your PC Clock where
it needs to be.
November rolls around, Your PC will need to go back one hour.
Since Your PC has ALREADY Changed back in October and had to be reset,
It will need to be set back one hour manually to keep in step with the
NEW DST Law.

(Confusing, eh?)

That answers the "WHY 4 Times" part of Your Q.

Re: Your Q, "What's with 2012"
The NEW DST Law is good until 2012.
Since it's taken over 60 Years to change it to the NEW Settings,
chances are, it won't change again for quite a while.
IF the NEW DST Law gets changed back to the OLD Law, then the
PC will need to roll back the changes to the ORIGINAL Settings.

With DST-Update, You will be able to do that.
Else, Your PC will be good to go for as LONG as the NEW DST Law remains in place.

Good comment and Here is what may (or May Not be) a benefit.
There are some people out there that can barely even start and shut down their PC's
probably, don't even know where the "Start" Button is, etc...
(You get the Point...)
Well, having to change the clock 4 times a year could ALSO be a bit of a challenge.
No Install needed for this program...
Just Download, double click the icon, run the program, it's "Set it and Forget it."

Is there a Big enough market of Lazy people, or people who do not Know how to change their own clock?
Another GOOD group of Q's.
IF people are made aware of it, they May Be interested.
Will they be Automatically?
Come March, it WILL Become an issue when people notice that their clocks are not correct.
Out of the hundreds of Millions of PCs worldwide that follow the DST Changes,
Out of Those people that DON'T want to have to change the clocks, and REALIZE how much they'll
have to PAY Microsoft for support, Yes, there IS a market.

When does Daylight Saving normally start and begin anyway? What's with 2012?"
Here is the schedule :
March 11 - Nov. 4
March 9 - Nov. 2
March 8 - Nov. 1
March 14 - Nov. 7
March 13 - Nov. 6
The OLD Settings would have "April" and "October"
but don't know off hand what EXACT Day of each year that it WOULD have been.
If that's important to You, I'll figure it out... Please let Me know.

Hope that this Answers Your Q's and Helps.

Christopher

Re: Here are the Answers...

Christopher and Pete,

Thanks for clarifying.

So what you saying is... the DST Change Over Date, which is preprogramed into the computer, is being Changed by the govt (the govt is Trialing a New change over date). Correct?

In that case, Yes, I see it as a big problem. And one which people won't bother with until the last dying days of it.

Re: Software for Non-XP Users..(Okayed by Dien)

Hi Michael,

You're spot on!

All PC's are programmed to make the time change in April and Oct. Since the new change is now March & Nov. starting this year, our program fixes the PC so that it changes "on time".

You're right. 99.9% of the people will probably wait until the last moment.

Isn't it possible Microsoft will have a patch available on its website for users to download for free that fixes problem?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for ASKing.

According to Microsoft's Knowledgebase,
ONLY XP Service Pack 2 and 3 and Vista will have the updates,
Else, Windows 95 through Windows XP Service Pack 1 are
Out of Support, hence, You will have to PAY for the Update
with their Support.
MS support isn't CHEAP, either... :)

Also, have You Ever had to deal with MS Support Before?
Jump through hoops to get to who You need to get to, etc.?

Hope that Helps Answer the Q for Ya.

Christopher

PS. Your Emails are Bouncing Back and can't get any through to You.
Don't know if AOL is blocking GMail now or what?

---------------

Hi Michael,

Thanks for Responding.

Yes, it could cause a HUGE Problem, especially since PCs are SUPPOSED to change automatically.

I agree, this won't be as marketable UNTIL there is some form of PAIN,
hence, when March and April roam around.
That's OK, though...
That's what DST-Update is for...
:)

Christopher
