Simple vs complicated, basic vs advanced, green vs red...

Which car goes faster the green one or red one?

Silly question? Probably.

But I want to take a moment and take a look at Business concepts. OK?

Well even if it isn't OK with you, I'm going to do it anyway.

The foundation of a business is; Exchanging value for a profit.

If your business is not making a profit, probably won't last very long, unless, like Amazon you had/have deep pocket funding.

As was pointed out in a recent thread, the profit "formula" looks something like:

Finding a prospect for your goods and services
SELLING them (exchanging value) something so they become a CUSTOMER
Keep them a satisfied customer for as long as you can and continuously buying from you.

Yep, that's pretty basic 101.

Simple selling: set your TV on front porch with a FOR SALE sign on it, unless you live in the boondocks, this could work for you. Have a bunch of TV's in your garage and replace the one you just sold, closely resembles a retail business.

Simple and EASIER selling: when I visited the Quaker Square "Mall" in the old days, I would immediately smell the cookies being baked, it PULLED me downstairs and soon had cookie crumbs in my beard.

Never failed to get me. Steve DiMarco had nut kiosks in arenas, got the same effect, the smell of his nuts pulled people to his carts.

To me these are IDEAL retail type businesses, A- when you sell something that people want (like TVs on your porch) or B- when your customers are drawn or pulled to you and are almost robotic in their buying, are good models to pursue.

I had interest in the Ice Cream Truck from my 52 Scattered Cards Report...and we have a couple of members, including me, who have actually done this...and we've helped out some of you in deciding if this is what you want to do.

Ice Cream Trucks are a PULL, magnetic marketing, customer comes to you because they WANT what you have model, although driving in a neighborhood without your ice cream "siren" on isn't going to pull many to you.

Ice Cream Truck; SIMPLE: A freezer filled with ice cream, pre packaged treats.

vs,

COMPLICATED: stand, more complicated, mixed in front of you.

SEE? There is NO right way or wrong, it is what suits your business goals. I know guys who make 100k with their trucks (a few of them) I know more guys who make 100k with a bldg, a location.

What is great about Business is you get to pick and choose what and how much you want to do.

You can be a fly low collect the dough type, OR you could be a big time Entrepreneur building huge businesses from anything, if so motivated.

Garbarge/Trash: Wayne Huizenga Billionaire. Garbage/Trash; TINY's (expanded from tow trucks) local biz only service with 10 trucks

Junk is me; guy with pickup.

From simple to complicated. Basic to advanced. YOU get to choose.

No limits, no built in governors, no ceilings only YOUR desires and determination.

But, here is a problem I see over and over, decade after decade.

Too many begin with the COMPLICATED, dare I say, the convoluted. The difficult.

I preach, teach and want to work with action pre-ceeded by THOUGHT. Do the thinking first but get started immediately, and if you are not experienced,

and

even if you think you have the next big idea, start with simple, the test of concept,

the find the customer, pull them to you because they WANT what you have, before you start pounding the calculator keys on your way to being financially independent...or

make a few bux THEN use leverage or economies, scale, systems, etc. to get to a more complex, albeit oft more profitable level.

Nothing wrong with picking up trash to get started, ask billionaire Wayne about it.

But if you're still driving the truck after 5 years, you havea job, and may be self employed, but make sure it is what you WANT to be doing.

Push, pull, have something to SELL
and then go from there.

YOU can NOT use advanced persuasion techniques if you haven't used the basic tools. NO power tools for you until you can hit a nail with a hammer.

How Johnny Depp KNOWS When A Character Will Be a HUGE HIT

Thanks Gordon,

Johnny Depp is a perfect Example of a man who has
SIMPLIFIED his path to success at his job.

SELLING MOVIES.

Johnny was asked, "How do you know when You Have a Character that will be a BIG HIT?

Answer - "When the Producers and the Director come over to me and say,
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?" -- I know we'll have a HUGE Hit."

(EDITORS NOTE - I read Chuck Jones book. As animation director at Warner
Brothers he helped created cartoons for —Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd
and Porky Pig. Those he created himself includes Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote,
Marvin Martian, Pepe le Pew, Michigan J. Frog.

Chuck and his team LOVED IT when their Boss or Bosses BOSS visited
and Told them "NEVER DO THIS Because it's not funny." Since Their BOSS was
ALWAYS WRONG - they all dived in to create what they knew was going to
be a HUGE HIT. Doing EXACTLY the opposite of what their Boss said.)

WOW!

Two geniuses in 2 Different Jobs DEPEND on "THE SUITS" to Figure out
what to Create Next - That GUARANTEES SUCCESS!

In my own small way I am following in their footsteps.

For Example:

POINT I - 50% of home owners in the northeast use wood to Heat their homes.

POINT II - My Grandfather taught me to use an ax and a sledgehammer
and wedges to cut and then split wood.

After my Dad died at age 94 - I moved Back to the farm. Whole lotta
big Trees Dying and falling over.

So when an 81 yr old neighbor had a 4 Foot thick Dead maple Tree
cut down by the local Baltimore Gas Electric co guys - I Figured this would be A GOOD to Get In Some Practice.

I volunteered to "Help Split the wood so he could Move it off his lawn."

Bob said, "Take it. Whatever you split up with the Ax and Sledge is yours."

POINT III - MY Johnny Depp and Chuck Jones TEST to Find Out if
there is a Market for Wood Cutting HOW-To Books and Videos.

***I'm 6 feet from the road. Pulling on a peavy to tip one of the 5 foot thick
maple tree rounds flat so I can Split it. Truck driver STOPS IN THE Middle of
the road. Says, "Are you Crazy? Why not use a log splitter?

I looked at him and said, "Who is going to HELP me lift this onto the splitter?"

"OH." And he peeled rubber.

This kind of thing happens a LOT.

Lots of men.

Women rubberneckers.

Women with kids Point and Laugh.

Women walking dogs.

Neighbors.

100% LOOK AT ME Like I am Crazy. Or TELL ME So.

EUREKA!

So THANKS to Johnny and Chuck I found a HOT Niche. And have started
creating a series of products to go onto websites.

I've started collecting photos.

Thanks Glenn,

Great metaphor with built in Oxymoron, I love it.

NO one online provides more case studies and real world examples of NLP than Glenn does, we are lucky and appreciate it when he shares with our forum members. I hope you all realize how special this is.

Glenn is an NLP expert. There is no argument that NLP is one of the great POWER Tools (or weapons if you are militarily inclined) of persuasion.

There are 1001 so-called NLP gurus selling stuff, and Glenn (my opinion: Better than most of those so-called experts, is the real deal) gives use usable technique which WORKS.

I like results. Results talk, BS walks. Simple as that.

Now about the metaphor:

Here Glenn is, a Zen Master of NLP, a true genius in persuasion (and one of the best at coming up with unique Pre-Occupational Interrupters)
out there using 19th century tech to get the job done with his trees.

Sure, he could use chainsaws, hydraulic log splitters, all the power tools available, yet he CHOOSES a more rewarding way for him to get the job done, good old fashioned hard work. Labor. The way we see the Amish doing it here in parts of Ohio.

And my metaphor is this. Although there are POWER TOOLS, or weapons or advanced techniques of persuasion...there are still the Willie Loman's of the world, burning shoe leather in the concrete jungles of selling getting
the job done
with 20th century, Old Elmers style Salesmanship.

Still out there cold calling, knocking on doors, seeing the people
practicing their

tested sentences that sell.
overcoming objections
engaging in being a problem solving partner

and having a good night's sleep from their hard efforts.

I see Glenn in the spirit of my late brother, who would rather spend a weekend replacing a transmission himself ...than spend his money to have it done. He loved the labor of it.

Me? If you read the story here
http://www.writerstollbooth.com/rpf.pdf

you saw my mother wisely point out to me I was more suited to selling and making money quickly and not very suited to doing the manual labor.

See, I'd be on the phone to Davey Tree, come cut these trees down. Or I'd call Glenn to come do it. I would rather enjoy the fruits of his labor in front of a fireplace snuggled with my sweety listening to the cherry crackles while Neil Diamond crooned Sweet Caroline.

Do what YOU love.

Do what you prefer.

From chopping wood to carrying water.

To making/saving money.

My brother didn't get why I would spend the 2k to get the transmission fixed and no matter how many times I pointed out his weekend of labor saving the 2k would be costing me 4k, or a net loss of two grand, he was stubborn.

But he loved doing the work and when you enjoy the labor as Glenn obviously does with his trees, it has it's own rewards within.

There is no right or wrong...just preference.

If you are doing just fine and dandy with your old world selling methods, if everything is hunky dory and you're not getting tired out, then keep on enjoying what you do.

BUT, if you are anything like me, and would rather spend a smaller amount of time to make a lot more money, which can be used to buy other people's labor, then you should consider learning and APPLYING all you can of the advanced methods of persuasion.

Now, then,

Mike Rowe at TED Talks - Funny But SCARY True

Thanks Gordon,

Mil Gracias for the kind words.

I had just watched this video Before Visiting SowPub. So here is the Source
of my ENTHUSIASM.

======

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRVdiHu1VCc

======

In MY OPINION - A Dirty Job - Like Scything the lawn by hand - is
CHEAPER than joining a Health Club.

And a Ton more FUN,
Than Baking under a Fake Sun,
Not Talking to Strangers on The Run,
You Couldn't get Me Into a Gym w/ A GUN.

At First - to get stronger - after living in the City for 30 years - I cut
the grass with a scythe.

My Grandfather taught me How to use An American Scythe. Much heavier
than a European Scythe.

But I watched tiny little girls in Europe cut an acre of wheat before Breakfast.
And then people in the USA Scything their LAWN by hand.

RATS.

If they can do it I can do it.

So I bought a European Scythe, - Snath and Blade from "Marugg Scythe Co" in
Tennessee. Run by a nice wife and husband team. Tell them GLENN OSBORN
sent ya - 931-592-5042.

Started Cutting Grass.

After a couple or 3 Years Suddenly I noticed that - AFTER it Rains - Literally
THOUSANDS of spider webs appear like MAGIC- spaced a foot apart - on my 5
acres of lawn.

MOST IMPORTANT.

It turns out IF I don't Beat the GRASS to Death every week - My Happy
Spiders EAT all of the Bugs in my Raised Bed Gardens.

WITHOUT PESTICIDES. (I do sprinkle hot pepper on slugs. Even spiders don't
Like them much.)

Huh - I've been gardening since I could crawl - read all the books. Thought
I was an EXPERT.

Now - for Entertainment - I pull up a lawn Chair and Watch Big Spiders
Chase and Devour STINK BUGS on my Zuchini Squash plants.

Very Gratifying.

NEXT
to
Get
Even
Stronger -

I am using the Ax and Sledgehammer instead of lifting weights to get back
into shape.

What am I getting in shape for?

40 Acres of Trees, Grapevines as thick as my leg. Multi-flora Rose Bushes
Wild and growing 30 feet tall. And 1000's of Asian Bittersweet Vines
which are choking all our TREES to death.

Gotta be cut or all our 100 yr old trees DIE.

(EDITORS NOTE - Google "Asian Bittersweet Vine" - Turns out some IDIOT
imported it. Zillions of berries carried by hungry birds - have spread
the vines from Florida to Maine - all the way to the Mississippi.)

Cutting Trees up by hand is EASY compared to cutting a path thru
my Version of the amazon jungle.

Anyway.

Mike Rowe Started a Foundation to Train and find people to FILL the
M*illions of Blue Collar Jobs in the USA.

Great Job - Mike.

Thanks,
Glenn

Thanks Glenn and Roger,

Wow, Charlotte is a phenomenon! What a great news story! :)

The reason it works (as I think Mike Rowe said) is credibility... By rating the "Toffee-tastic" a "1" - she established her credibility as an honest judge of the cookies...

Plus - it's so unusual in today's world, people couldn't believe it!

Thanks for sharing... :)

Best wishes,

Dien

Trust - Enthusiasm - Patriotism

Thanks Dien,

Another Reason Mike Rowe was able to Help Charlotte
sell 26,000 boxes of GirlScout Cookies is TRUST.

His 4 Million customer list
TRUST him to.

Entertain them.

Not waste their time.

Mike didn't let them down.

He told this charming story - read a Truthful Letter by a little girl
who wanted to send girl scout cookies to our troops.

So We have a Mix of -

"Enthusiasm - by Mike

"Trust by 4 Million customers

"Patriotism - (Shared Charlotte and Mikes Viewers)

"Integrity by a little Girl" - Which seems in short supply in USA Politics and
Business (Based on the # of politicians and biz leaders WE READ ABOUT being Fired by Their Board of Directors OR locked up)

A MIX of Emotional Elements took Mikes short video VIRAL.

Glenn
