When AltaVista's Spiders hit your site...

... after submitting, it usually says something like, "Your site was captured in 2.3 seconds..."

I've noticed that some sites are indexed with without the "www":

http://example.com

and some with the "www":

http://www.example.com

And they get indexed under the same keyword search, but within two different places. For example, one on the first page of results, one on the second page.

In essence, you're getting your site listed twice.

So, I'm wondering if you can submit with the "www" and then change your meta tags and resubmit without the "www" 5 minutes later.

Anybody know?

Hi Adam,

I don't know the answer to your question, but it sounds like it could be worth a shot....

That's quite perceptive!

It's a crap-shoot my friend.

Since you're essentially submitting the same site - with the same DNS and IP addresses, AV's spam police may flag your site and delete or ban it from their listings. If you rely on SE listings for a large percentage of your targeted traffic it may not be worth it to take the chance.
