Don't remove the SULFNBK.EXE file
A little off topic here.
I received several emails today telling me to do a search for the SULFNBK.EXE file and if it is on my computer to delete it. The email warnings claim that it is a virus. It isn't. Windows needs the SULFNBK.EXE file to recover file names longer than eight characters. I always research any virus warnings before forwarding them. Just wanted to let you all know about it before, and if, you get the same email. More details at the link below. Have a great one. Dennis link to Symantec |
Wow...a new generation of non-viruses???
Wow...how to wreck havoc without having to learn the "art" of virus-writing....totally weird...back in the days of dos, i knew what every file on my computer did...today...take a wild guess....

If you did remove it...
The boys in the IT department of my father's office sent him the following fix...
The virus reported to us yesterday was a hoax.* What the virus alert actually did was to get you to delete a necessary operating file from your C-Drive.* The file needs to be restored. To do so: 1.* Click START - RUN, type SFC and hit ENTER 2.* In the "Specify the system file you would like to restore" field, type C:WINDOWSCOMMANDSULFNBK.EXE and hit ENTER 3.* In the RESTORE FROM field, type, C:WINDOWSOPTIONSCABS 4.* Click OK and continue with the restore function Hope this helps. Thanks Dennis!
Thanks Dennis, this is a great warning.... I DID get the virus message (asking me to delete the file) forwarded from someone I know, who then later sent an additional message saying it was a hoax....
This is a really sneaky one! Luckily I saw your message, this is certainly something I might have fallen for if I hadn't seen your post.... - Dien |
Have you heard of the Big Brother worm?
Hi!
If you get it, it snoops through your hard drive looking for chilld ****, and if it finds any it turns you in to the government. It also does a bunch of other stuff. Sounds unbelievable? Check out the Wired link below.... Best, - Boyd http://www.wired.com/news/technology...?tw=wn20010526 |
Thanks Leo for the great info. (DNO) (DNO)

No problem Dien
I had a long night on the phone last night with family members who had removed the file. No wonder I am sleepy today. I thought it was the 113 degree heat.
