An alternative to a Yahoo! listing for getting web site traffic?

Many people ask about how to get listed with Yahoo! While it's not impossible, it can be difficult nowadays.... So I wanted to share with you this alternative....

It's the Open Directory Project, at www.dmoz.org . At first glance, it sounds like it's not much use -- after all, who's heard of the domain www.dmoz.org ???????

BUT, consider this.... You've heard of Google, Hotbot, Netscape Search? All these sites use data from the Open Directory Project (ODP) for their web directories.... By getting listed with the ODP, you simultaneously get yourself into the directory on these web sites, plus on over 100 other sites too....

So, to my mind, it's a good "alternative" to a Yahoo! listing -- when you add up all these sites (especially including the Google web directory), it may even be more powerful than a Yahoo! listing. And I think it's much easier to get in, too!

Thanks Dien

My client at www.drag-gear.com has been rather successful selling his drag racing apparel from his site. We started asking his customers how they found his site and most reply they found it from a search engine, most of those used google.com using a search phrase similar to: drag racing apparel.

I went to google.com and typed in - drag racing apparel and found his site is number two out of 7,400+ results. Other search engines didn't give quite as good a showing (Alta Vista, Yahoo etc).

Your post may help us out. Thanks for the post.

Re: Thanks Dien

Hi Dennis,

Looks like your client has a nice range of stuff! I can see why he has a successful business.... A good, strong niche product -- clothing for the drag car racing fans! Niche products (as we've discussed) seem to do EXCELLENTLY online....

I'm glad you liked the post, and thanks for your note Dennis.... :)
