Search Engine Optimization

I have heard that the optimum number of words for one page (eg. Home page) submitted to a search engine is between 200 and 600. This would leave a very short page with not that much text.

Any opinions on this ?

Thank you.

Ken,

I don't know the answer to your question, but, if you don't know of it, there's a very useful web site on search engines at http://www.searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/features.html

From this if you look under `rankings' you'll see that the most important thing seems to be `link popularity' which means getting others to link to your web site.

I tried this with one of my web sites, I created my own web sites on free service sites (geocities, tripod, etc), mainly just to link back to my main web site. Then I'd list these free sites with the search engines, so I'd increase my links back to my main site.

Not pretty, but it works.
