Success and self-hypnosis

Can self-hypnosis be used to help with success? If it can how can I find out more about this technique?

thankyou,

Max

Joe September 5, 2001 10:37 PM

I've tried, lord, i've tried.....

but my answer would be "no"...the best book i've
read on success, bar none, is Think Like a Tycoon...and he said, basically, that America is
answerland and everyone is willing to sell you
an answer...

and in psychology 101 they teach there is no
state known as "hypnotised"...the closest is
the alpha waves...that state half way between
awake and asleep...

pick a project, any project and do it successfully
and you'll find your self confidence and self
esteem will soar...the only answer you need

Right On.....

Hark unto thee O truthsayer!

You are absolutely right on!

Eons ago when I got out of college...the BIG thing was "Zen Budhism"...reaching an "alpha state" for absolute PEACE and WISDOM!

Then came...reaching your inner self and self hypnosis....EST...and crystals.

HOGWASH! It's all crapola. You can "think yourself silly" but there ain't NOTHING like...being successful at a small "thing"...then being successful at a little larger "thing"...until you are standing at the "edge of trying a BIG thing"...when all of your "little successes" click in line and you go in the right direction with the right wisdom and confidence to succeed.

Nothing succeeds like success and there ain't no substitute for EXPERIENCE!

You can read all the books you want. Do all the self hypnosis...est...positive thinking stuff you can find the time for BUT...until you actually TAKE A STEP AND TRY AN ENDEAVOR...you ain't doing nothin' but spinnin' yer wheels!

Take the previous posters EXCELLENT ADVICE...try a small project...succeed with it...then try a larger one. It WORKS!

positive self talk

Positive self talk can help you through the times
when you're close to quitting if a project
proves harder than first anticipated.

But like Don says, you just gotta jump in and
enjoy the water : ))

FREE: add "hot 'n' sticky" threads, keep 'em coming back

Re: Paul, I Think I'm Missing Something

Paul -

I went to your site, discussmarketing.com.

I see where I can get your code to add "sticky" content to my site by adding your "Hot Threads." But I seem to be missing something.

1. How does it work? IOW, if the viewer wants to read the whole thread or another thread do they click on a link to go to that board?

2. If bunches of marketing sites are all offering "Hot Threads", how can this help me be unique?

Thanks.

What is it missing? I'm working on improving
it, so your input is greatly valued

Yep, I'll make this clearer in the next update : )

It's intended as a service to save your
visitors time from trawling through the
sea of information to find the pearls.

I'm constantly woring on improving the model
let me know if anything springs to mind.

As regards unique content, that was not my
intention, the USP is this "it delivers hand
selected threads to your visitors and keeps
them comeing back"

So far all the responses I'd had have been
positive especially from the people who use it,
as an education resource.

But I always appreciate good contructive critique
too.

Thanks for your input

Yes It Can!!!

Max -

Hypnosis and Self Hypnosis CAN help you succeed.

If you want to quit smoking, it can help you succeed.

If you want to lose weight it can help you - BUT - it is MUCH LESS EFFECTIVE because altering eating habits means altering something which is necessary for our survival. And our built in protection system won't allow you to hurt yourself.

If you have fears or phobias, Hypnosis and Self Hypnosis can help to successfully get rid of them.

It's easy to say "just do it", and all that other stuff, but the reality is, the first initial step IS the HARDest for many people. Hypnosis and Self Hypnosis can help you overcome your fears and get you taking that initial step with CONFIDENCE.

I have seen, with my own eyes, agoraphobics (people who lock themselves away from fear of the outside world) SUCCESSFULLY taking train rides after a few weeks. And these were real bad cases where they hadn't ventured outside of their house in years.

Likewise with those who want to quit smoking, gain confidence, remove shyness, et al.

So YES Hypnosis and Self Hypnosis CAN HELP YOU SUCCEED.

To find out more go and see a Psychologist or Sports Psychologist - NOT a Psychiatrist. And go and see one who works with fears, phobias, stress, bahavior, etc. And make sure they are university-trained and a member of the appropriate bodies (there are "quacks" who do correspondence courses and non-acredited courses and they should be avoided - they're like the instant internet experts).

If they deal with past life regression and/or finding out whether you've been abducted by aliens, avoid them.

If they put on stage shows, avoid them.

Hope this helps.

Michael Ross.

Right on, Michael

I totally agree with your comments. Anyone interested in the topic would be well advised to read the book Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz.
The book was written over forty years ago and is a classic about using self hypnosis to improve your life.

The Truth and the Hype of Hypnosis....

Hi Michael,

Thanks, wow, an interesting reply!

Just today, I stumbled across an article from Scientific American magazine about hypnosis! From the July 2001 issue (I've linked to it below)....

It's fascinating, I highly recommend reading it. It turns out hypnosis IS a real phenomenon, which has proven effectiveness against many illnesses which have a psychological component like obesity, insomnia, anxiety, hypertension, and overcoming pain.... And there's also strong evidence hypnosis can help with several other illnesses too (read the article for more details)....

As for hypnosis and success? I don't know the answer, but if psychology is a component of success, then perhaps hypnosis can help with the psychological elements -- things like self-confidence and will-power. I don't think by itself it would be enough, but perhaps it could give you the drive you need to reach your goals? In brief, I DON'T know the answer here, but it's a fascinating topic!

More... The Truth and the Hype of Hypnosis....

Hi Dien,

> Thanks, wow, an interesting reply!

Your welcome. Of course, having a father with a PhD in Psychology and who is also a clinical psychologist an clinical hypnotherapist, means I've got first-hand insider info.

I know what works. What doesn't. What can and can't be done. And what the overall realities are as far as people's perceptions in general go.

For instace. The article said "... the evidence for hypnosis as an aid in quitting smoking is equivocal."

And yet the success rate of hypnosis helping people quit is very very high.

So why the differece of opinion?

Simple: The article was looking at it from the point of view of "Involuntary responses."

If I do not want to quit smoking, then all the hypnosis in the world will do no go (and the article will be right). On the other hand, if I do want to quit but find it tough, then hypnosis will be a great help (and the article will be wrong).

FACT: You can NOT make a person do something against their will using hypnosis.

Mesmer, the guy who invented mesmerism, and mesmerism itself is an interesting subject. And deserving of its own seperate discussion.

Hypnosis is a tool. A tool for change. It is not anything like what you perceive it to be - unless you already know.

No-one counts to three, snaps their fingers to awaken you, and suddenly you're different and can feel it. You won't feel empowered like you would after going to a Robbins seminar. And, in fact, you may not think anything actually happened at all.

Can it help you be successful?

Again I say, "YES".

Note, however, that success is a POV thing. What you mean by success and what I mean may be two completely different things. And what is the thing you want to be successful at?

Successfully quit smoking? Successfully approach that girl you've got your eye on but up until know have been too shy? Sucessfully remain calm under trying conditions? Successfully break your obsessive compulsive behaviour? Something else?

Hope this helps some more.

Michael Ross.
