The Gentle Art of Naming. Need Your Help
Hi,
Gordon and Dien, congratulations on your new outstanding endeavor - this discussion place! Here is the question. One of my friends just bought a special gift for his wife (they celebrated their 25th anniversary). He bought her a...star. A certificate of "ownership" to be exact. My wife's reaction was: "Nuts!" Verily, "nutty" people buy and sell different kinds of "chattel" - Brooklyn Bridges, stars, Lincoln Farms. So, in a couple of days I am opening my new "Business Nuts" group for information exchange on the most weird, funny, "nutty" businesses that believe it or not pay well. The problem is that another friend found the name "Business Nuts" highly OFFENSIVE. Full of SEXUAL connotations (his judgement). Probably I am dumb, but I just don't hear those connotations in this simple word-play. Do you? Please help. Simon "Nuts" and Bolts of Internet Discounts |

I did a little survey here at work...
no one thought of the type of nuts your friend was thinking off...I'm wondering about your friend...;-) > Gordon and Dien, congratulations on your new > outstanding endeavor - this discussion > place! > Here is the question. > One of my friends just bought a special gift > for his wife (they celebrated their 25th > anniversary). > He bought her a...star. > A certificate of "ownership" to be > exact. > My wife's reaction was: "Nuts!" > Verily, "nutty" people buy and > sell different kinds of "chattel" > - Brooklyn Bridges, stars, Lincoln Farms. > So, in a couple of days I am opening my new > "Business Nuts" group for > information exchange on the most weird, > funny, "nutty" businesses that > believe it or not pay well. > The problem is that another friend found the > name "Business Nuts" highly > OFFENSIVE. > Full of SEXUAL connotations (his judgement). > Probably I am dumb, but I just don't hear > those connotations in this simple word-play. > Do you? > Please help. > Simon |

Just back from shopping...bought a new door handle in: KNOBS AND KNOCKERS. |
"Nuts" is okay....
Hi Simon,
I also have no problem with "Business Nuts." Simon, I also really enjoy your various discussion forums.... In my opinion, they are some of the most creative places on the 'net! Cheers, Dien One of Simon's Forums.... :) |

Hi Simon!
> He bought her a...star. ***I find this to be INCREDIBLY romantic! What a cool gift! That way, they will ALWAYS have that star to look towards. I think its a great idea. I think your FRIEND has a shallow wife who is not deserving of such a creative thinker! > The problem is that another friend found the > name "Business Nuts" highly > OFFENSIVE. > Full of SEXUAL connotations (his judgement). ****I get some of the same stuff with my website name. It gets attention, and thats what I am after! I don't find it offensive, I think this friend is overly sensitive. I actually find it more offensive if you are somehow mocking people with mental illness. We all have our quirks I suppose. Can't please all the people all of the time.... Best wishes with your newest venture! I think Stars are COOL! ![]() |

Hi Julie and Simon!
> ****I get some of the same stuff with my > website name. It gets attention, and thats > what I am after! You should see what we get with The Naked PC. I'm surprised at some of the sites who link to us - and consistently send us traffic. Although I'm not sure the traffic they send us hangs around very long after seeing what we are about! Hope that helps. -- Dan Butler http://www.TheNakedPC.com http://www.thenakedpc.com |
