I want to give it away, but my wife won't let me...
 

About twenty years ago, there was a local commercial on TV which featured a nerdy-looking, hen-pecked guy that was supposed to be the owner of the store. No matter what he was selling, he always "wanted to give it away, but his wife wouldn't let him." Obviously, it branded him since I remember it twenty years later.

The commercial was trying to get you to believe this guy was your friend, that he would give the item to you if he could (but his wife wouldn't let him)--so if he wanted to give it to you, surely he would give you the best deal in town!

You can't make a profit if you give everything away ALL the time; however, giving something away some of the time can repay you many times over in the future. Over-delivering on your product offering can insure loyal customers which can be worth many dollars over your lifetime in business.

What goes around, comes around...that is a modern paraphrase of "Whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap."
