A Question for Gordon.
Hello Gordon,
I've read different posts by you about sales and coldcalling... so, I thought, "Hey, I'm going to ask Gordon for his thoughts on this topic." The other day, I had a gentleman ask me a question about sales... and I didn't have an answer for him. What he said is that every once in a while (while doing sales-coldcalling)he is totally overcome with "something"... he just doesn't know what that "something" is. He said when it happens, he feels like hiding or running away. So, instead of doing sales, he stops to get a cup of coffee, stays awhile, and eventually just goes home. Now, what he wants to know from me is: what is this "something?" And I DON'T know! Any ideas of what he's experiencing, or how I can offer him any assistance? (Overall, he seems to be doing quite well in sales.) Thanks, Gordon, for your time. Cordially, Diane Everroad Simple, Easy, and Only $5.95! ![]() |
Yet another question.
Gordon I know I sent you an email with this question. But then it occurred to me that you may want questions posted in this forum. So here goes. Would you please give some guidance on how to create the ads that are put on your board?
Thanks, Sandy |
Re: A Question for Gordon.
Hi Diane,
I hesitated to offer this, but since I haven't stopped thinking about it, I will. You said: ****** What he said is that every once in a while (while doing sales-coldcalling)he is totally overcome with "something"... he just doesn't know what that "something" is. ****** In addition to what you've already suggested to him, I'd also ask him to write down his impressions of the place, the people, the owner, etc. We are intuitive beings. Or to put it differently, we are spiritual beings. We have a "connectedness" to a greater consciousness from which we can pull "things that don't exist into existence." Yeah, I know. I hear the Twilight Zone theme song too. But consider any man-made thing. Whatever it is, it began with an idea. I think the "idea" is somehow pulled from the abundance of that greater consciousness. Just as creativity can come from there in the form of ideas, maybe we also pull ideas that safeguard us, as well. Intuition. Hunch. A "precognition," even. I once had an Irish Setter who was so loving that if a burglar broke in, I wouldn't have been surprised in the least to find her fetching valuables for him. Every once in a while, Bridget would react ferociously toward someone. That person couldn't come within five feet of me, and it was all I could do to restrain her. There was never any rhyme or reason to it. She seemed to just "decide, and act." My mom witnessed it once. She said that she didn't believe Bridget was reacting to the person, but was instead reacting to some 'air' about me in the presence of the person. She thought that somehow, I was sensing something I didn't like, or was afraid of, and that Bridget was acting on it. And that was the first thing I thought of when I read about your salesman. Maybe he's 'intuiting' something. If he keeps track of his impressions and feelings when these 'episodes' occur, maybe a pattern will emerge. Or not. I now return control of your monitor to you . . . (See why I hesitated?) Mary |
