A new trend... "Cyber Begging" !

For some, this apparently works. It's been called "Cyber Begging"....

It's where people put up a web site, asking you to send some money. One web site, "Save Karyn", has apparently already received $10,800.

You can read all about it (and other "Cyber Begging" sites) in this article....

I'd be way too embarassed to try anything like this myself. I wouldn't want to make a living from begging! But it's still interesting to know about....

An interesting twist on this is the Dutch student who set up a web site to ask people if he could stay at their house for a day while he was traveling. He ended up traveling through 16 countries in 16 months, and received more than 3400 invitations from 70 countries!

P.S. Here are the sites (from the article), in case the article disappears....

P.P.S. If you'd really like to help a good cause - I like the Red Cross.

New?

Begging for money online isn't new... the newspapers picking it up might be.

This is so old Yahoo has a catagory for it:
http://dir.yahoo.com/Entertainment/Humor/Begging/For_Money/

There used to be more people begging on Yahoo than listed there.

Perhaps what's new is....

...that some of these sites are (apparently) actually making money.

The most successful one in the article - the "Save Karyn" web site - was only created on June 20, 2002 - about four months ago....
