business phone line for new biz starting in apartment?
Any suggestions for a getting a business phone number for a new businesss while living in an apartment? Even if the apartment allowed it a 2nd phone line isn't an option-moving to another apartment (in same town) in a 6 months.
The regular phone number could be used for all outgoing calls, but need the business phone number for occasional incoming calls from customers. Thanks- |

For those who truly don't want to miss a call...
Use your landline number - BUT - have it divert all incoming calls to your cell phone (mobile phone for those in Aust) whenever the landline is in use.
No busy signal. No voicemail (do you leave messages on voicemail or hang up like 80% of people). No lost calls. Sure you will have to wear the cost of the call from your number to your cell phone (mobile phone). It's just a cost of doing business which your sales price should cover. Re: business phone line for new biz starting in apartment?
Ron,
Here's one possibility. This was suggested to me by a local telco employee... If you have a friend with an established business that would let you have a business line installed in HIS building under YOUR name, then you use call-forwarding to ring your apartment number. After you move in six months, change the forwarding number to your new place. No one knows you moved because you can be reached at the same number as always. If you are not in the apartment, forward your apartment phone to your cell phone or pager. If you can get cell service, it is becoming very competitive--you may be able to solve all your difficulties with just a cell phone. Starting Over in Business? |

Ask about the 'distinctive ring' service. You'll get a new number on the same phone line for an additional small monthly charge.
Give this number out as a business number. When people call this number, your phone rings with two quick rings/pause/two quick rings/etc., or something similar to that... Then you can answer the regular ring with "hello" and the distinctive ring with your business name/greeting, etc. You could ask if this number could be kept for your new location, if that is important to you...
