How to keep from getting DOG SICK over the Holidays
Hi folks,
(Well, I'm cross posting this to a couple other boards, so may as well send it along to my favorite...) Some friendly advice as we head on in to the holidays... you know, that time where we gather together with friends and loved ones, break bread together, talk and visit... and bring home all sorts of assorted coughs, colds, flu, sniffles, and other gross stuff. I'm about to tell you how to KEEP FROM GETTING SICK whilst all around you wither and fall under the grip of Mr. Flu and Sister Cold. Heed my advice, this has worked for us under the most harrowing conditions, against the most disgusting epidemics of flu you'd ever want to see: Whenever you have been around (or suspect you've been around) some "Typhoid Mary", gleefully spreading all sorts of bugs, do this: 1) Dip a QTip in some Isopropyl Alcohol. Then use it to swab out your nostrils. Whew, what a rush! BUT... it will KILL the buggins hiding out in your nose, and that's just the way over 90% get INTO your system... through your schnozzola. Do this after every gathering / potluck / party throughout the season, and you'll drop your chances of getting the flu by half. 2) Go to your local health store and buy a bottle of ELDERBERRY capsules. Yes, ELDERBERRY. As soon as you know you've been exposed to the flu, start popping these herbal caps, 2 at a time, 3 times a day. If you feel the flu coming on, up it to 3 or 4 x 3 times a day. IF you will do this ON THE OUTSET of any cold or flu, you WILL dramatically reduce the effect it has on you. For instance, while all around me were suffering for 10 days+ during our last homestead "flu-in", I kept my head and started popping those ELDERBERRY tabs as soon as it came in the house. Result: I did get "sick"... but only for ONE day, and just a slight sore throat at that. You should have seen the looks the kids gave me. It made believers out of them. 3) Wash your hands frequently. But you already knew that, didn't ya? Best Wishes, Jim Erskine Great Old Time Holiday Stories for the Whole Family, healthy or not! ![]() |

Jim,
Right there, on the label of the Alcohol bottle is says: - FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. And.... Caution: DO NOT APPLY TO IRRITATED SKIN. AVOID GETTING INTO EYES OR ON MUCOUS MEMBRANES. I would recommend that you get a water pik and a Grossan Tip. These are highly recommended by Ear, Nose & Throat doctors, all over the world. Okay, okay, so here's my disclaimer: DON'T DO THIS.
Adam,
I'll just share this with you and leave it at that: we learned of this from several nurses at our local hospitals who swab out their noses to STAY WELL while working with flu patients. It works incredibly well for them, It works for us... But... I HEREBY DO NOT RECOMMEND IT FOR ANYONE ELSE. Fair enough? Best Wishes, Jim Erskine |
Re: Okay, okay, so here's my disclaimer: DON'T DO THIS.
I don't mean to be a pain or a kill joy, but:
- Doesn't it dry out your nasal passages? - And why do they tell you to avoid contact with mucus membranes, on the side of the bottle? Seriously... I don't mean this as a criticism. It's an honest question. I know it's difficult to ascertain tonation via this medium. Especially when asking questions. - Adam. Get your dog to listen to you, anywhere you go... |
2 - 3 weeks of hacking cough SHOULD NOT BE AVOIDED : )
Hi Adam,
No, it doesn't dry out your nose. It DOES feel like you've just stuck a menthol eucalyptus cough drop up them, though! We only do this once a day after coming home from some get together. The nurses who recommended this told us that 90% of all flu germs are inhaled from coughs, sneezes, etc. All I know is, it works. For US, anyway. I DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE ELSE TRY THIS, HOWEVER, as the flu this year only seems to last about 7 days anyway, plus 2-3 weeks of hacking cough afterwards. Most folks can handle that. And Adam, thanks for the note. I am writing with tongue in cheek. : ) Best Wishes, Jim Erskine |
