Website Popularity Rankings?

Hello Forum,
I wanted to know if any of the members here had ever utilized Ranking.com? Their website claims they have ranked 830,000 sites according to popularity metrics such as UVs, visits, views and links. I apparently rank exceptionally well and wanted to know if the forum has had any experience with them and could elaborate on the methodolgy they use? I am in the process of contacting them but wanted some outside input before I proceed?

Please share your thoughts!
Thanks in advance, I look forward to your comments.
Best Web Wishes,

I've not tried them. However, after reading how useful Alexa was (is), I decided to give it a try. I really like it so far. And they don't hide the fact that they will report back some of your information. I don't yet understand their ranking system but it *is* quite interesting. For example, eBay's rank is 10. Well, as compared to what? All sites? Auction sites? Dog training sites? (Sorry Adam. (g) ) You can get all the info you want on a site about ranking, who's behind it, etc. as long as the information is available. It seems to be available for most sites that I've seen.

I don't understand their rankings, either.

My dog site is ranked #94,537 with 4,777 unique visitors.

Ablake.net is ranked #2,641 with 4,830 unique visitors.

So, an extra 50 visitors a day will bump me up 90,000 positions???

Could somebody with less attention deficit than me please figure out how and why knowing the ranking is important?

Hi, all -

What I have *read* is that Alexa's ratings only rate and include other sites that have the Alexa toolbar *installed.*

While it is not a perfect system, it is apparently reasonably accurate in its partial relevance to all sites, ranking one to the others. I also have it installed and use it quite frequently.

Hope this helps,

Adam, Here you go...

I checked the TREC site and it's listed as:
4,756 unique visitors
ranked 287,512
On Alexa it's 37,853.

By contrast, quickoffers also has:
4,756 unique visitors (must be the same exact people going to both, lol)
ranked 151,431
On Alexa it's 90,040.

Dogproblems on Alexa is 140,991, but may get more traffic than either of the above sites.

Like you I'm not sure what real benefit this provides. After studying Alexa a little closer to gain a better understanding of why the TREC site shot up so fast, I doubt any comparisons are valid.

If it were a pure traffic measurement or some other objective criteria by itself, then perhaps that would be useful. However, to calculate some algorithm based on a combination of traffic and depth?

Anyway, I figured I'd chime in here as a first time poster. Thanks Adam for the heads-up.
