I most definitely *AM* reading this. And I'm mulling all this over in light of the work Julie and I have started as well as what you and I have discussed. (I'm also reading this because my favorite web designer mentioned my name. *g*) > and have a built in search engine to go and > locate other rivers, ports of call, that a > person can simply find within their own > PORTAL... > So, I'd say the INTERNET is currently > lacking especially for us a tad over 40 > (HA!).... > is a SIMPLE, CONCISE way to get around to > the places we want/need without surfing > through a ton of garbage, sales pitches, > hype and crap. Extremely interesting. Perhaps we can discuss this further when we get together. Rick Smith, "The Net Guerrilla" |
Hi Rick... Oddest thing... did you notice??
>(I'm also reading this
> because my favorite web designer mentioned > my name. *g*) *g* We women have egos too. That was good for mine! *laughing* Thank you! But... ummm... I noticed the oddest thing. I looked and looked and didn't see your opinion or thoughts. *g* It couldn't possibly be that you don't HAVE an opinion, cause that's just not the Rick I know. : ) So what do you think? What should be on a site geared to become a meeting grounds for the 40+ crowd. What's sadly lacking online? What are your interests? : ) Linda Home Sweet Home ![]() |

I figured a few positive strokes couldn't hurt when one is waiting for an awesome web site redesign! *g* > But... ummm... I noticed the oddest thing. I > looked and looked and didn't see > your opinion or thoughts. *g* It couldn't > possibly be that you don't HAVE an opinion, > cause that's just not the Rick I know. : ) Well, now you *know* better than that. Just because I didn't *post* an opinion doesn't mean I don't *have* one. *g* I actually didn't post it purposely because I was focusing intently on what Gordon was saying in his post. Gordon and I have had some offline discussions about content. I've also started working with Julie Jordan Scott on mindmapping. (I'm the student. *g*) Gordon's post very much tied all this together in my mind and I was focusing on that. > So what do you think? Well, since you asked directly, I guess I'll *have* to post my opinion now. *g* Before I do though, I guess I need a little more info. This meeting place, do you have something in mind like a meeting place for teens only for the 40+ crowd? My interests are probably different than many people in that age group. Maybe not. These are in no order of priority. I'm interested in the study and application of direct response marketing *g*, model railroading, computers, snow skiing, numerous sports, building family relationships, etc. Rick Smith, "The Net Guerrilla" |
Getting Close......Fifteen months, twenty two days and a few hours........

>I've also > started working with Julie Jordan Scott on > mindmapping. (I'm the student. *g*) ******ahhhh, all it takes is a positive mention and here I am, writing my thoughts! I have actually been pondering this since I first read Linda's post. In what I have read about many women who come online, they come with a goal in mind: a list of tasks to complete and then do them. I do that on certain occasions....I would say I set a daily agenda and marginally stick to it. I normally will use my idea journal and do a search on a specific topic throughout a day for example...but its not one *THING* that I need specifically on line. Probably the best and biggest surprise I have gotten from the Internet is all the relationships I have built. I have some on line friends I am closer to than my face to face friends. I have a Virtual Assistant who lives 400 miles away, who I have never met. I have talked to folks worldwide using Netmeeting and similar programs, I have constant company (when I want it, that is) through ICQ and AOL-IM, I have boards like this one to interact on, I have my discussion lists and ezines that I enjoy reading. Maybe the one thing I would like that I don't currently have is a site of Historical Inspirational Geniuses. I don't keep it a secret that Leonardo Da Vinci, Henry David Thoreau, and Albert Einstein are a tip of the Iceberg of those folks who I have so enjoyed teaching myself about over the past year or so. Maybe a place for adults to study stuff like this. In an environment where we can all stretch and grow and thrive together, and not be concerned with being right or wrong. Thinking, thinking, thinking and then creating, creating, creating. If somehow we could all converse and somehow host a karaoke night once in a while I would be in Nirvana...... Well, you asked! Have a terrific weekend! With Purpose and Passion, JULIE |

Unlike Julie, I don't bring as much computer skill or intellectual acumen (curiosity maybe) with me when I come onto the net. The topics I may choose may be more in line with daily living, and the situations I am facing now. What is the same is the desire for an enviroment to share thoughts and feelings without being concerned about being right or wrong. A safe place. Early in this string Linda mentioned that people wanted a place to get information without being sold something. Yet, we know web sites aren't free. But I get tired of web sites so commercial that the information is tainted. There must be another way. Gilles |
