Archive search question

Hi Dien,

Is it possible to search the sowpub archives using the author's name?

The post has the author's name above the title. (But that author name is not hyperlinked.)
However, the thread shows "Guest" instead of author's name.

And the search bar isn't searching for the name that is posted above the title in the archives...

So if the authors name isn't used in the posts - it doesn't show up...

For eg: I could find all of Michael Ross's posts because he writes his name in all his posts. But couldn't find many of Simon Latoche's posts...

Is there a way around this so that the search bar also searches for the author's name that is shown above the title of archived posts?

Hi Ankesh,

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how to do that myself yet! (I did look to see if there was some "setting" I could set in vBulletin to include that in your searches, but I couldn't find one...)

The next best thing would be to use a search engine... For example, go to Google www.google.com or Altavista www.altavista.com or Yahoo www.yahoo.com and put in

site:sowpub.com latouche

and it will find a whole bunch of entries for Simon Latouche. :) (Although the drawback is the search engines, as far as I know, haven't archived everything)...

If I figure out a way to let you search the authors too, I'll "enable" it - but I haven't had any luck so far...

Thanks for asking, though! :)

Cheers,

Dien

I should add that this is mainly a problem with the archives... (The archives are all posts converted from the old forum which used "WebBBS" software...)

For the "newer" posts (after September 2006), you can click on a person's name from within their post, and choose "Find all posts by {person's name}"...

Best wishes,

Dien

Hi Phil,

Thanks - I'll check it out and see if we can come up with something!
