Hola Bob,

Thanks for asking.

There are LOADS of "Free Spanish Lessons" online - Google the quoted phrase.

There are, also, Paid courses you can take.

Go the Free Lessons in Rocket Spanish http://www.rocketlanguages.com/spanish/ for a start.

Also, Foreign Service Institute courses, while normally a Paid thing, can be obtained Free here http://fsi-language-courses.com/Spanish.aspx (Ssshhhh)

And for $20 you can get the Pimsleur deal from Amazon. The "Intro" course you get for your twenty spot is actually Half the first level course which costs hundreds.

If you want to learn, then let me add these ideas...

Idea # 1: Flash Cards. One side the word you want to learn, the other side its meaning or our word equal. Stick, if you can, to the 1,000 most common words. You'd be surprised to know how much you can understand with just that small number of words. (That site Gordon mentioned ages ago that does the laminated hotsheets - http://www.barcharts.com - sells Spanish flash cards)

Idea # 2: Listen to radio shows in the language you want to learn - and TV programs if available.

Idea # 3: Read newspaper articles in the language you want to learn. Just like English newspapers are written at 12 year old standard, other languages are the same. Go through them with a Language/English dictionary and Translate the articles word by word. Good to also help you make flash cards at the same time. Find articles using google news search.

These three ideas above will help you Heaps.

Oh. And don't worry about American Spanish V Europe Spanish. They can understand each other fine. The differences are minor.

Let me add some more...

You'll get better results listening to Talkback or News stations.

Find radio stations at http://www.radio-locator.com and Internet Broadcasts at http://www.live-radio.net/info.shtml

Here's one I use...

I've been using this one:

http://www.studyspanish.com/index.htm

They do have CD's and also a "premium" option, but the free stuff is quite extensive. If you go to the Curriculum menu on the left, you'll see what I mean. They even have Concentration and Word Search games that make it fun as well as audio sessions.
