MS Word Help

A little technical help please:

When I create a hyperlink in a 2003 Word document and then click on the link I get a message saying "an unexpected error has ocurred". No explanation with the error message.

If I have IE open at the same time, the links will connect fine. Any ideas?
(The same happens in Excel.)
