What does Bling Bling mean?

I've heard it in songs. Seen it in business articles. And in all uses it doesn't appear to be there for any reason. Makes no sense. But it must mean something.

Please tell me what it means?

A hip-hop term of approval.

According to blog-fun.blog-city.com:

Blung

Wow.....its funny when a old hip hop term gets that much publicity.

Bling Bling originally meant to have extremelly shiny jewelry or a very shiny car. Its kinda of like when the sun hits a very reflective piece of jewelry it gives off a "bling bling sparkle.

Now...tell me...what the heck is a "kitsch"?

Kitsch

Well, that explains why a business article which mentioned a certain car refered to it as a bling bling.

Ages ago I also had to ask the question "What does Kitsch mean?" People were using it all over the place and I couldn't see any connection.

It's like something - an object - would be said to be kitsch. Then an overall look would also be said to be kitsch.

Well, now my dictionary has the word - doesn't have other more common words but it has kitsch. And it says, "pretentious or worthless art, literature, etc."

So I guess maybe you could also call it Shabby Chic.

Oh man... what's with all these terms? My brain hurt. Scuse me while I lay down for a while. :o)

I'm from NYC, so I can help ;) ...

As some others stated above, "bling bling" normally refers to big, expensive, shiny jewelry. Normally the platinum chains etc that just about all the rappers wear. They just say BLING BLING because it's so shiny and really catches your eyes.

But.. in slang terms, it's not only limited to jewelry, we associate anything that involves a lot of money etc with it. For example, if someone goes from being very poor to being extremely rich, you might say "oh he's bling blingin' now", but that doesn't necessarily mean that he's buying platinum chains (he might not even own any ;) .... just that he's all big and rich now.

Or if someone has a nice car, you might be like that's BLING BLING man.

Hope that makes it a little easier for you all to understand. If anything is unclear, just ask. :)

Peace.
