Newsgroupsand Web Forums

Hi- Recently, I allowed a friend of mine to use my name on a letter he was posting to numerous newsgroups... Yours was the first posting and he showed me a printout to verify it. Today I see it is not there. If possible, please let me know why it has been removed. I hope that nothing illegal or offensive was involved, as I would never have authorized the use of my name under such circumstances. I am quite impressed with your web site and it appears my subscription to The Entreprenure Hotsheet has been interrupted as well. Please let me know. Thank you- Leslie Pellegrin

This is known as Board Spam.

Probably because it was Board Spam.

Yeah yeah. We've all heard all the supposed legitimate reasons why a post might be cross-posted onto numerous boards.

Whatever the reason... it is still Board Spam and very few cross-posted posts are allowed to stay, anywhere on any board.

I would be more concerned with why you allowed someone else to post something using your name!?

I've checked my records for a [email protected] and don't have it. Is that the email address you subscribed with?

If it is the email address you subscribed with, you may have unsubscribed yourself - thinking it was something else - and then forgot about it.

Zapped Re: Newsgroupsand Web Forums

Leslie, I didn't see your message - I guess it's considered a spam message and deleted.

Nowadays, because of serious spam problem, even regular folks at forums may have their messages zapped or even their sites banned - if the
moderators think you break the rules.

Forum messages are usually judged individually -
no matter how helpful you've been at the forum, if your message is not viewed favorably, it's gone.

The moderators have their responsibilites to keep their forums clear of advertising messages.

So, think twice before you post a message that maybe considered an ad. It's better to email the moderators and ask first.

All the best,

Re: Newsgroupsand Web Forums

Hi Leslie,

I think Michael and Alexander already covered everything.... We have several moderators here - the forum is moderated 24 hours a day - so we are pretty strict on spam. Spam always gets zapped!

I also checked and didn't see you as a subscriber to the Entrepreneurs Hotsheet (at least not with the email address you used for your post).

However, it is a simple matter to resubscribe. Just go to this page

http://www.sowpub.com/entrhotsheet.shtml

and enter your details at the end.

You can subscribe and unsubscribe any time you choose....

Best wishes,

- Dien Rice
