Idea Help & Investing hint
Hi Everyone,
I'm Newbie Nick, nice to meet you all. I've really enjoyed reading through a lot of your posts in the last few days. (Gordon- by the way- I'm also from Cuyahoga Falls, born and raised! :-) I live in Jerusalem now, and am trying to brainstorm ideas for a business I could run here, and market to the states. (From a chatteling standpoint, there's are some really cool markets in the Old City that sell Middle Eastern ornaments, religious artifacts that the tourists like. ) Some starting points: ~Budget of around $2,000 to get started ~I think playing up the Middle Eastern/exotic card would work well ~Even the "war/middle east conflict" card could work (?) ~Product should have large profit margin, as shipping costs to the States could eat into profit Based on what I've seen here, you all are really creative, and I thought I'd throw the idea out there. Thanks for reading this, everyone. -Nick By the way- word on the street (and from a lot of my army buddies) is that things are going to really heat up in Israel/Iran in September...investors may want to order oil futures. |

Here's an idea.
Buy a shovel. Find a carpenter to build a sturdy box of ½ cubic foot capacity, lined with plastic. Fill the box with dirt from Jerusalem. Enclose proof of origin. Send the box to this guy, along with a proposal to supply him with another box a month just like it. Ask him to send you 15% of his proceeds. |

Thanks for your input, this is an awesome idea....how about taking it a step further and making a line of soaps, incense (maybe even tobacco?) and hand/body cream? Could be very easily automated. |

I think we hit something with the hotsheet idea. You'd be surprised at how many American expats live in Jerusalem....and they don't have a clue how to work the bureaucracy! I was "lucky" to marry a local (this March!), and she's helped me through much of the bureaucracy....which could maybe be translated into many hotsheets (How to pay property taxes, how to set up a bank account, how to....) Another thing that's big here is finding people who are honest. It's a haggling, middle eastern society where "an eye for an eye" is the norm. It's hard to trust the guy who wants to fix your car, or install new windows...it's hard to trust them with pricing and quality....so maybe a hotsheet about "these guys are the honest/fair guys." Or since I'm newly married and did the whole process in Israel, maybe a hotsheet on how to organize a beautiful wedding in the Holy Land. SOWPubbers in other places could also make similar hotsheets. If you live in an area with lots of new people moving in, and you know who the honest plumber, mechanic, butcher and dentist etc, are....well that's golden information! Why not sell that info to newbies in you area in the form of hotsheets? |
