A profitable seafood business - a long way from the sea...
One couple - in Iowa - has gotten into an unusual business for their area...
It's saltwater shrimp farming... In Iowa! (For those who don't know - Iowa is about as far away from the ocean as you can get in the USA...) They farm their shrimp in saltwater tanks... I think it's a fascinating story. It sounds like they run it like a home business - with the husband (Chad) working on it full-time, and his wife (Keely) helping out (she also works as a personal trainer). Here's where you can find more info... It could be a good business if you're in a rural area and have some space available... http://siouxcityjournal.com/business...0cdded318.html Also, here's their website... http://www.shrimp59.com Best wishes, Dien |

nice story, though it's tough to implement for everyone.

Thinking "out of the box"...
Quote:
The point is more to help stimulate thinking out of the box, as they say... To go beyond conventional "knee-jerk" reactions in thinking... If anyone said someone could start a saltwater shrimp farm in Iowa, most people would say - that's crazy, that's impossible! However, these people figured out how to make it work. By doing so, they created a competitive advantage... How? If you're a long way from the ocean (such as in Iowa), saltwater shrimp has to be imported from one of the coastal cities. However, if you could buy shrimp from a local shrimp farm, transport costs would be lower, and also, the shrimp would be fresher! That's the main point... Sometimes in our reactions, we tend to automatically think, "you can't do that!" However, with a bit of thinking, sometimes you can do what seems to be impossible or improbable, and sometimes that can give you an advantage... - Dien |
