Who will win the election? Here's how to know...

Who will win the presidential election?

Most people will say boring things like - look at the polls! Of course, which polls you look at is up to you... Nate Silver says one thing (Obama), Unskewed Polls says another (Romney)...

However, there are far more accurate ways to know...

One is the sale of Halloween masks. Apparently, 60% of people bought Obama masks, while only 40% bought Romney masks... Which could be a bad omen for Romney...

http://money.cnn.com/2012/10/23/news...id=SF_BN_River

Another way are sales of 7-11 Coffee Cups! (Blue cup for Obama, red for Romney.)

There are a whole bunch of other wacky ways in these articles...

Now, on a more serious note...

One guy, Greg Mitchell, has another way. He looks at who the various newspapers across the country endorse. He then "weights" it by the circulation of the newspaper. By looking at all the newspapers in a particular state, he predicts (by who gets the most endorsements, "weighted" by circulation), who will win that state. By doing this, he makes a prediction of who will win the electoral college - and hence, the election.

Here's Greg Mitchell's prediction, based on newspaper endorsements...

More details on the actual newspapers and circulation figures here...

Finally, people around the world bet on the US election. This is generally illegal to do within the US itself, but it doesn't stop others outside of the US from betting (with real money) on the election.

Some people think the "betting odds" given are a good indication of who will win...

The two main "betting markets" are Betfair and Intrade. (Note: I believe it is illegal to bet on these websites in the USA, so just be aware of that...)

Best wishes!

also, the odds are traded on the stock market , right now ...obama wins ...we do have the best government that can be bought ...huh?
1.5 Billlion spent so far ...to whose benefit? who gets all that money ? and seems, to me, that $$$$$$$$ could be better spent somewhere else...like a bridge or two ? underground electric cable? go vote...

Hey Dien,

I've seen studies showing that the tallest candidate usually wins.

But Obama is 1 inch shorter.

Too close to make any difference - perhaps.

Elections and Horse races - tough to predict.

Hi Glenn,

I had heard that too - that taller candidates tend to win the election...

You're right, maybe the heights of Romney and Obama were too close to matter...

However - I just checked, and John Kerry was much taller than George W. Bush (6'4" vs 5'11.5" - or 1 m 93 cm vs 1 m 82 cm, for metric lovers)...

Also, it turns out that Al Gore was a little taller than George W. Bush too (6'1" vs 5'11.5", or 1 m 85 cm vs 1 m 82 cm) - though this is also quite close (1.5 inches)...

So... who the heck knows? :)

It's probably a "statistical" thing - that is, it isn't always true, but it might be true more times than not...

Apparently - you can make a living betting on horse races. But you really have to do your homework - really know your horses, know your jockeys, know their history, ask around to try to get "insider info" on how healthy the horses are - etc.

When it's put that way, it starts to sound like a "real job"... ;)

(I don't gamble - but it fascinates me...)

Best wishes!

Hi Phil,

Thanks - useful stuff, and a good article, too...

Here another article, which promises to tell you how you can profit from Obama's second term in office...

What should you invest in?

Of course, the presidency will have priorities, and those priorities could affect the profits of various industries...

You have to read the article to get the details (including specific companies), but the "broad" view is they recommend to invest in...
  • Health care (Obamacare means that many more people will be forced to participate in the health care system than before, which means potentially bigger profits for many health-related companies)
  • Home construction and real estate
  • Mobile communications (i.e. cell phone support industries)
  • Financial services
  • Energy (including oil and gas drillers and refiners)

Here's the full article... (Note that there are 2 pages...)

Re: Who will win the election? Here's how to know...

I don't think the question was who will win. I think the question was who will lose and it sure as hell ain't any of the politicians or Wall St.

Can you spell American People?

Oh yeah, other losers include all countries w/a central bank. If you have to borrow your money, you are already in a hole. I think we pay our fed 2% to issue our money. Soooo, who wins again?

Just my 2¢...

Tom

Dien,

If you want to know where to put your money get on the Stansberry and Associates mailing lists. This bunch of NL hyping snake oil salesmen will tell you anything you want to know. If they wrote about penny stocks they'd be called a pump and dump organization.

However, if you read their free stuff, you could get an idea of where to put your money. When they hype a prticular investment go to stock gumshoe and let Travis Johnson tell you which company they are talking about. He stealths them out for free. Plus, Travis has a stellar reputation unlike the S&A boys.

But, like I said, it is free you just have to go to several sources to get all the facts.

Tom
