The 3 little words non-marketers cannot comprehend...

"People buy things."

Most non-marketers ("regular" people) can't comprehend that 70% of our economy is based on CONSUMERISM!

It's made round to go round. We are all "floating" on people buying things.
It's all about the transactions, baby! Shopping therapy.

Without it, the entire economy would crumble.

Thanks goodness... people buy things!

Hi TW,

That reminds me of something I came across...

In "hard times," ordinary people don't stop buying luxuries. They still buy luxuries - they just buy cheaper ones...

Anyway, I believe I read that somewhere, once upon a time...

Oh, I posted about it here! http://www.sowpub.com/forum/showthread.php?p=23548 (Found after a quick search.)

Ah, the joy of rediscovering stuff I used to know, but have since forgotten!

Best wishes,

Dien

Is consumerism capitalism? If it is, somebody please tell the scum bags in D.C. to stop bashing it. If not, well, there's nothing to say...

Tom, the DC people do not want capitalism. Capitalism and gov't are inversely proportional. In order for one to increase, the other one must decrease. Money is power and freedom. If the people have it, that's capitalism. That is at odds with the gov't always trying to grow!

The current DC people are intent on dismantling capitalism (+ religion). They represent a reduction in the gov't's POWER!

When I've been low on money I would indulge in "fantasy" shopping while doing the mundane survival shopping. I'd put one or two things in my cart that I wanted, but didn't need, push 'em around for a while, and "change my mind" at the end of the shopping trip. A good tool when discipline was waning.

A little insight into the mind of a somewhat resistant, but still hopeful, shopper.

Great tip, Colleen! I could learn from your example...

Hi Colleen,

I think that's a great "tip" when discipline is waning, as you said!

I've been much worse... I tend to just give in to temptation! (Yesterday, I bought a whole bunch of cheese crackers while grocery shopping, which frankly speaking, are probably not good for me given the amount I eventually ate yesterday... However, it was a half-price special, how could I resist?)

What you shared is also a good and interesting comment on psychology...

Thanks Colleen for sharing that!

Best wishes,

Dien
