management
Help. I have just been assigned to head a new product design team at my company. The division manager has high expectations for the team and me, but I have been a technical design engineer for four years since graduating from university. I have never managed anyone, let alone led a team. The manager keeps talking about her confidence that I will create a high performance team. Does anyone out there have any tips to help me master this challenge?

A recommended read re: management
The responses so far have been excellent (especially the emphasis on learning to deal with people), so I hate to throw a less-inspiring post into the mix. Hopefully, it will be useful anyway.
Get a copy of Managing the Design Factory by Don Reinertsen. It's the best thinking I've read regarding how to manage the process of design. Best, Phil Take me to the Book: Managing the Design Factory |
