Re: Down On My Luck - Challenge
Hi, Sarah - I wonder how many people who frequent this board would say "I was/am extremely shy." I know that in my early days, I was terrified of people. So somewhere along the way, I developed the knack of looking at how other people had problems and actively sought ways to help them; not by spending money - more by trying to bring a little humour or kindness into their lives. (sounds a bit pompous, I guess; but their laughter helped me so much!)
Problems can overwhelm you and put you into a state that makes it difficult to find a road forward. When you look around you, though, everyone has problems of one kind or another; these people need you just as you need them. You are taking a courageous step by posting to this forum; the next step probably isn't so hard - and if you stick with this you will get stronger every day.
One book I read a while back had a little mantra which I still say to myself from time to time (smiling as I do it) - "I feel healthy, I feel happy, I feel terrific!" And you know, after a few minutes, I can tackle most things. Hope this works for you.
As for finding gainful employment which will bring you a reasonable income - I have seen people requesting information on other forums where they could do book-keeping for (say) dental practices from their own homes without having to meet people; or medical billing work. All I would say is try not to miss out on meeting people; you can give them some warmth and laughter and suddenly your shyness and loneliness will evaporate - and your life will start to be richer and happier.
With very best wishes
Margaret
