Default Calling all Internet Explorer Wizards. Can you solve this?

Browser: IE 5.5
OS: Win95
Problem: Maximizing the browser window takes the browser to the edge and leaves the window's borders visible - blue bar at top is not flush with top of screen and top border can be seen, and the same with the left, right and bottom borders.

This never used to be like this. It used to maximize normally (top, bottom and side borders unable to be seen). Two days ago, all that changed while I watched it - I was visiting a website, the url of which I cannot recall, and the window resized itself while staying maximized.

After virus scans, temp folder and cookie folder empties, and numerous reboots, the problem persists.

Have searched the IE help file, google, and support.microsoft.com and cannot find a solution to this problem.

I figure it is an .ini file somewhere which has been altered. Or some other setting which I am unable to find - such as telling the browser what size to open as a default, or how big to go when maximized.

I know there is a solution because what can be done can be undone.

Please, if anyone has any idea on how to make my browser maximize button actually maximize the window as it used to, won't you post your solution here before I pull all my hair out and throw the computer against the wall for not doing what I want it to do.

Thank you.
