I've already fulfilled 16 request for info/opportunity packets since 1 March. Many others who have received their packets since the new year have already sent in their first order.

Meanwhile, I just spent 8 days home-bound with the flu and bronchitis, with today being my first day to call on customers in a week.

During the six business days I was grounded, I completed orders for nearly $2800.00 in promotional advertising.

The orders haven't slowed down and my first day out (Wednesday), I wrote 8 orders for 6 customers totalling $3200 due to a backlog demand of buyers needing to see me in person.

That's $6000 in a week and a half, leading up to the onset of the Iraq invasion by the US and allies.

We have at least $3000 we expect to complete by week's end if I can cover enough bases.

However, I wouldn't want to be a new car salesman at this time, as many big ticket buyers are holding their breath.

On a similar note, WalMart had grand openings of 41 stores across the US on Wednesday, represent hundreds of millions in investment along with thousands of new jobs added to our economy.

Many stores are newer, larger facilities replacing older and smaller stores, but some are completely new markets.

Yes, these grand openings had been planned for at least a couple weeks for the final scheduling, but the ground work started 8 to 24 months ago for most of these locations.

As is often the case, the US economy is not a single behemoth, but is composed of many parts, sectors, regions, and industries, with each having different cycles and market influences.

Home-based businesses if not flourishing in the current economy overall, is at lease showing expansion with many taking the plunge to start a new enterprise now.

In my situation, I never have to worry about a pink slip, as I can only be laid off by one customer at a time, and am not subject to a corporate buyout/downsizing, etc.
